Driving
So I have literally just overheard the following in the pub - I couldn't help over hearing as the two women were talking loudly
" I narrowly avoided an accident. I was turning left out of a junction ( Wotton towards Mundford) and looked right to see nothing was coming so I began to pull out, luckily I just happened to look left and saw a car overtaking coming towards me in the wrong lane - it shouldn't have been there !"
Really! You don't look both ways at a junction?
And they were dog owners - cockapoos omg - just moved to Norfolk says it all
Noooo - the dog pictures are out - this pub is going to the pits and £4.95 for a pint of ale

Re: Driving
Definitely should have looked both ways - no argument there at all. However overtaking approaching a junction is also a no-no. I assume this is the junction of the B1108 and A1065 near Bodney/Hilborough. Not a straightforward blame allocation if it had resulted in an RTC.
Re: Driving
Cockapoo's, I think they are mongrels aren't they!!

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Re: Driving
I agree but not looking both ways twice is a asking for trouble
From the www
In Great Britain, there were 29,711 road casualties who were killed or seriously injured in 2023, with 132,977 casualties of all severities
One day long after we have gone when cars are basically driving themselves Society will look back on this era much as we look back on the mediaeval ages with a smug conceit.

Re: Driving
Heading home on Motorway from Kinross.Wise guy came slamming down the sliproad from Stirling straight in front of myself and the guy in the inside lane.First time I have seen 2 Insignias nearly doing handstands .Clown made NO effort to stop.
Re: Driving
I served in the Fire Service for 25 years and attended many RTA's, RTC's, call them what you will, (a lot were fatalities), and if these crazy drivers could see the carnage that they may cause I would hope it would slow them down, and maybe make them have a bit of respect for other road users, sadly wishful thinking I fear.
Of course there are the other types of driver who are in their own little world when driving, just as much of a menace...
Take care out there and watch out for those others!!

Re: Driving
I taught people to drive for 39 years!. I'm not quite sure how I survived all the antics from other drivers who were not my pupils!!!!!. When I took up flying, I found that there are idiots up there as well!!!!.
Re: Driving
Stopping on a motorway slip road is an offence in itself, is it not?
The whole point in slip roads is that joining traffic join at the same speed as those already on the motorway and if anything you should’ve eased up or if possible moved over to allow the car joining to merge in.

Re: Driving
You have not queued near the Dartford tunnel to join the M25 in the morning - stop start between a wall of lorries on the inside lane

Rule 259
Joining the motorway.
When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should give priority to traffic already on the motorway
You should check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane
You should not cross solid white lines that separate lanes or use the hard shoulder
You should stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway
You should remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking.

Re: Driving
Aware of that, I was referring to what he should’ve done in the situation he found himself in. Having to slam his brakes on to the point of doing a “handstand”, tells me he wasn’t fully aware of his surroundings or other road users.
Re: Driving
Just to clarify my post Thunder,
I should have restricted the copy to the ref about stopping on the slip road.
So,
No stopping is the rule except when the motorway is full (comment about m25?).
Goggled and found that for UK as many comments wish to join by motorway giving way as ones expecting to slip lane vehicle to slow down and fit in as per the Rule.
Just to clarify my approach to this matter;
In my dream world i would be able to run a Mack tractor with a bullbar. I would drive mostly in the inside lane at about 55mph, no faster because of the undulating surface of the road (due to heavy trucks).
Traffic entering from a slip road would probably give way
Any overtaking by me would require a speed differential of ten to fifteen mph and nothing in lane two.
Well, thats wasted another hour of my life, back retirement

Re: Driving
Sorry C24 I forgot lorry cabs are sometimes called tractors

Re: Driving
Oops apologies my mistake I meant to put slow down. Also its a 2 lane motorway and with heavy traffic behind us there was nowhere for myself and the guy in the inside lane to go.Apparently this happens quite a lot now at this junction..If the authorities cut back the some of the trees that block the view of the approach road the option of attemptimg avoiding action tmight be made a bit easier.C24 wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 6:20 amRule 259 of the highway codeThunder wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 11:46 pmStopping on a motorway slip road is an offence in itself, is it not?
