Any Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings Fans on here

Post by Skywatcher » Thu Jan 16, 2025 5:09 pm

Anyone else huge fans of both magical /fantasy worlds
I absolutely love both
I have been watching all of the Harry Potter films again on itv 2 this week
Brilliantly well produced films
My favourite characters have to be apart from Harry as everyone likes Harry (very relatable to me especially as I also have a scar ( but obviously a real one ) , Hermione (Emma Watson ) smart ,clever and very intelligent,Ginny ( Bonnie White ) and Luna who is quite dark but also very kind to Harry and has already been through a lot (like Harry )(Evanna Lynch)(again all of the above in their own way )
In the Lord of the rings it has to be Gandalf ( Sir Ian Murray McKellen) and of course Frodo (Elijah Wood)
You don’t get many films or series like that anymore
Having a sister as a actor as well I can see how much is put into these things (she was a extra in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them )
I feel like I grew up with all of them in some way
Scary how time flies . :Wow:

Lord of the Rings - definitely, and I think, for once, that the films are better than the books. However, The Hobbit film is unnecessarily long with un-original detail just to flesh it out.

Harry Potter just doesn't do it for me.

If you want to read some of the best children's fantasy then get Alan Garners's "Weirdstone of Brisingamen" - set on Alderley Edge it's brilliant.

My wife has read Lord of the Rings, but not me. I have never seen any of the Harry Potter films, or read the books. I guess I don't do fantasy very well. Same with Roald Dahl, though having once had dinner at his house with his Hollywood Oscar Winning wife [many years ago, long story!! My sister was a great friend of their Nanny!!] I ought to rectify that!. Did read his book about his flying in WW11 tho'.

Tried reading Lord of the Rings, but could not get into it. Never seen any of the films either.

Harry Potter doesn't appeal to me at all

personally find that watching the films is a let-down from the original books and my imagination, often as above stated with bits added in to 'improve it'. which makes it terrible and totally unenjoyable for me.

Guess its a never meet your heros thing :)

Never read the books so I'm biased towards the films.
I'll second that for the LOTR films as it encouraged me to travel to New Zealand in 2006 and visit as many of the sites used for filming as possible. Not all were done in studios and we had a great tour. Possibly the highlight was the scene in Fellowship of the Ring where Arwen crosses the river and the Black Riders try to follow and are swept away by the water.
We actually landed a H369 on that riverbank! Every time I watch that film I'm going 'yep...been there,' or 'wish we'd had time(and money) to go there'
Great fun.

Adderman, we took a very bumpy 4 wheel drive to that river bank. Watched the fellowship on the flight home and constantly pointed at the screen "been there!"

Incredible place. New Zealand is really the star of those films.

Recollections of places are fun!!. Wife and I driving through Wadi Rum in Jordan A desert. I remarked that one might as well be on Mars. I later discovered that it was where 'The Martian ' was made!. :)
