No, because speculation gets you nowhere. Better to wait until it's actually in black and white or they have at least outlined their plans.

Feel free to moderate it when you fancy it then :thumb:

So Truss, Rees Mog and Penny Moudant all lose their seats. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch, and I think I need a pain killer as my sides are virtually splitting after laughing so much. Thankfully the BBC has each count on their website so I can watch each again and again. Hopefully they will be up for BAFTAs! I wonder if there are any of those living museums showing life in Victorian times looking for volunteers, as Rees Mog is now available, and wouldn’t need to even change his clothing😂

Starmer is a puppet. I give it about a year before they've replaced him.

You need to have a reality check. It not Labour who needs to worry about Reform its the Tories. The more momentum Reform get. The more supporters Tories lose. It could be multiple parliaments before Tories are back

God help us all, it’s like 1937 all over only this time we could end up speaking Russian or Farsi instead of German.

what a sausage I must be - I hadn't realized because in the 70s and 80s you they just gave you one! All you had to do was save up the 20% deposit and get a regular salary - Easy! Then Blair came along and said don't bother saving for a deposit have a 100% mortgage instead. Bang! House prices explode upwards.

Anyway I shall get back to shooting deer on my Norfolk estate
Nice one for being a typical condescending boomer about the topic :thumb:

Weren't given out, but you could still:
-get a mortgage with a single blue collar wage
-pay it off with a single wage
-lots complain about how tough the 80's were for interest, but, majority still held onto their assets

Pretty much the opposite is happening now of all 3 statements.

Easy enough to point the finger at Blair, but, it was brought in, in 2006.... property was already on an upward trend and stalled due to the crash in 2008... Tories were in 2010 and decided to do absolutely nothing about it, but yeah, all Blair's fault

Everyone loves to point the finger at the previous government, instead of actually trying to fix the issue.

From Google

What house can I afford on 40k a year UK?
What size mortgage can you afford with a £40k salary? Most mortgage providers would offer you a mortgage of around £180,000 with this amount of income. This average figure is based on 4.5 times your salary, the typical income multiple UK lenders use to work out maximum borrowing, but it may be possible to borrow more.

If the cost of land was reduced to that of farm land, how much of a difference would it make?

Also, too many people chasing too few houses?

Pause for thought in these torrid times

That's even before you add in a deposit. And the average salary is lower than 40k. So quite a misleading point there. And 4.5x is a moot point because again, there are so many differentials in house buying.

Some interesting numbers ( so far) from Sky

As well as a thumping seat majority, Labour also won the popular vote, taking 33.9% of votes across the country.
In 1997, Tony Blair's Labour Party took 43.2% of the popular vote.

Seats won: 410
Number of overall votes: 9,660,081

The Conservatives took 23.6% of the popular vote - the first time in the modern era it has fallen below 30% and a 20-point drop from 2019.

Seats won: 119
Number of overall votes: 6,755,953

Despite winning just four seats, Reform took 14.3% of the popular vote - the third party by vote share.

Seats won: 4
Number of overall votes: 4,072,947

The Lib Dems won a record number of seats, with 71 so far - but by the popular vote, they lag behind Reform on 12.1%.

Seats won: 71
Number of overall votes: 3,487,568

Greens
Seats won: 4
Number of overall votes: 1,931,880

Some rebuilding to do for the SNP!
The election has been a disaster for the Scottish National Party, who have lost 38 seats to leave them with just nine.

They won 2.4% of the popular vote.
Seats won: 9
Number of overall votes: 685,405

I don't care who you voted for, Angela Rayner being a deputy prime minister is a terrifying thought. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cn09xn9 ... 4032e#post

Great stats Slogen, and continued proof, if ever needed, that the first past the post system is massively flawed. We now have a government in absolute power, with a massive majority, despite the fact that nearly two thirds of the people who voted, didn’t want them as our government? . How can we have the cheek to pat ourselves on the back and say we are a democracy? How can it be fair the pathetic Lib Dem’s can have 71 seats and reform only 4, despite the latter winning more votes? The sooner we get a form of PR, the better. I actually think a system similar to the French system, where perhaps if the votes for all the other candidates exceeds the winner in each constituency, you vote a second time, but with just the top 2 candidates left. That way Lib Dem’s/greens could switch to Labour, and on this occasion, Conservatives switch to Refowm, and ultimately, on each occasion, the winner gets more than 50% of the vote?
