My two cents having now seen it.

SPOLIER ALERT

Yes a fair amount of CGI, but tbf I think the fifth generation fighter involved were a little busy at the time of filming, and relations with Iran are also a little sticky to enable the borrowing of a Tomcat or two.
I feel Rooster was made waaay too much like his father, the piano scene was doable, but the Hawaiian shirt as well was too much. Then there's the late twenties/early thirties chap who's father died 40 years ago..
The rest of the characters I thought were believable, and ICEMANs piece was a touching addition.
Whoever thought up the mission piece had obviously played ace combat once or twice, and clearly has no idea how NATO works, Growlers anyone...?
Overall, definitely not a classic, but more than worth a watch, especially in the cinema whilst still possible. I'd certainly go again if I get the time. 7/10.
Just seen on the old internet ,the Tomcat used was borrowed from The San Diego Museum and the F-14 flight scenes were flown by Hornets and digitally edited later

Just watching it now.they have just entered the valley flying under the missiles sites.I would have thought Radar wouldnt be needed to detect them.4 Hornets giving it welly a couple hundred feet away might just be heard by the most relaxed sentry.

The advantage of having it recorded on TV is that the mushy bits can be fast forwarded.

? Did he charge for using his own aircraft for the final scene?

Why is Rooster “Gooses” son so young in it? He’d be in his early 40s 😳🤣

Maybe he had been using all these anti ageing products Blackcat ,if he was they are good!,apparentlly they are worth it. I thought his hair was a bit funny .Wig? .Then again maybe he just looked younger than he was in the original and he is in fact a Grandson..

I thought it was what it was ,a bit of entertainment and I found out the sound system in the local cinema in Arbroath was amazing.Dont know what some peoples expectations were.THey are only people doing a job.Still I know I got pelters for doing mine.

Probably did C24 but I couldnt care I liked the close ups of the plane ,the colours and the fact that liking a puzzle which ones James Corden had applied.Dont know the accuracy but looked it up last night while it was on tele and they reckoned he made $100 million dollars on the project. It also said it cost $170 million to make I am going back to school on Monday ,somethings wrong there or he put cash in.

Fell asleep halfway through when I watched it. It was Christmas night and the brandy may have been to blame 😐😊

I felt the title should have “mission impossible” in it somewhere.
CGI is great. Jennifer is fantastic. End.

Studio spent $177 million making the film.

World wide box office takings were $1.5 Billion. Of which Tom Cruise’s cut was around $100 million. So don’t think he had to put any of his own money into it.

$1.5 Billion takings is the reason they want to do another film.

Either the continuation of the Rooster/Hangman story line or something else?

I think a prequel film covering Mavericks father and his time flying F-4s in Vietnam could be a good spinoff also.

Gotta say the flying scenes are fantastic some are better in Maverick than in the Original but both are great movies in fact I might be tempted to have a Top Gun Movie night with both DVDs, awesome......

Would love to see a third in future.....

I don't like either movie, they are so difficult to believe. I'd much rather watch Star Wars.
