World's largest plane destroyed

Post by Ghost from above » Sun Feb 27, 2022 4:15 pm

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says that the Mira has been destroyed in the conflict.
I know it's a civvy but it's transported a number of airframes from various bases for us.

Are we sure this is accurate?
There were reports a few days ago that turned out to be false.
Let's hope this is that same old information and that he plane is safe!!

This was off the old BBC so they likely have done some due diligence over the last few days prior to posting it today.
I like you hope it's still there but it's getting a bit of a scorched earth policy by Russia to stop any reuse

The last track on ADS-B exchange for this was on 5th Feb, arriving back at Hostomel. A shame if it has been destroyed but it's inevitable if it was on the ground.

this is reported as being the aircraft on fire in its hangar(assuming the link works)

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FMnWtHzXsAo ... name=large

The feed it is on says "It’s in the hangar and you can see the wing to the left of the fire"

For an asset so important to Ukraine that its loss merited a comment from the Ukrainian president in a news-conference this afternoon, to me it is absolutely staggering that the aircraft was in Ukraine at all - unless putting it in harm's way was intentional because of the propoganda value the pictures of it burning would generate. :grr: muppets.

I recall a while back that apparently there were plans to resurrect a second (albeit partially completed) An-225? Scant consolation admittedly, but maybe there's hope for the Myra?

I think there are much more important things to be worried and dismayed about than the loss of an aircraft.

Not strictly mil i know but i think every aviation enthusiast will be dismayed by this news.
Ukrainian foreign ministry confirmed this news last night.
Why? It was just a larger chunk of airborne metal than any other, no need to be dismayed.

Really don't care, far too many important things to think about here such as loss of life, loss of homes and people fleeing conflict with an uncertain future. It's an aeroplane, and that's all it is. I don't see anyone bleeting about the loss of the other air frames so far, this is no different to those, it's just bigger. Another can, should there be the impetus to do so, be built, a lost life cannot
Cheers
