Petrol Availability - Mildenhall

Post by AndyB » Mon Oct 04, 2021 3:55 pm

I'm getting tempted to visit for the SJ's. However, I'd have a long journey from Surrey. Fuel availability here is dreadful but is it readily available, to fill up, at Mildenhall?

Things are improving , the Esso garage at Folly has petrol but there is a queue. Someone told me the Mildenhall roundabout petrol station is ok?

This afternoon at Brandon the BP garage was open with a short queue but only half the pumps are available - don't know why that would happen - its all one big underground tank isn't it?

I was under the impression that unleaded and diesel were stored in separate tanks - I could be wrong though.

True but the same pump does diesel and two types of petrol - so I don't see why a row of dispensers are unavailable but it is their business and no doubt there is a reason.

Often you have no diesel or petrol but the pump is still available for the other fuel.

It really is hit and miss here in Mildenhall, apparently the Jet garage is getting a daily fuel delivery, not sure about the ESSO garage. Both had fuel today when I went past.
Are you diesel or petrol?
Dave.

Perhaps some filling stations have had additional tanks added since the first set were installed and either the original tanks, or the additional ones, are empty.

It just depends on which tank that each pump is plumbed into, I suppose.

I guess so

Don't want to get too nerdy but I suppose you do sometimes pull up to a pump that is 'empty' and annoyingly have to move to another pump so maybe for safety reasons each pump has its own discrete tank arrangements

Can't believe I am talking about this :)

I used to work at a petrol station and we had 4 separate tanks. The easy way to tell is to look out for the tank filler nozzles into which the tanker dispenses the fuel and count them - our local supermarket has 6. They're also colour coded.

When we left Mildenhall this evening, the three stations, BP, Shell & Esso on the A11 roundabout were not selling any fuel. BP on the A14 Newmarket bypass was open in both directions for fuel.

Many thanks everyone. Sounds too risky for me this time. I'd better hope that their return home doesn't route via Rota!

Our little grey Fergie tractor ran on paraffin but only after starting on petrol.
Another pointless post😉

Speaking of which, on a cooler night, tonight, we ran the same fuel in the Aladdin heaters in the house. As you say, memories. Ice on the inside of the bedroom window.
Global warming, my arras

No E5 fuel locally so the Aston will have to be left in the garage :(

C24.When Senior management inherited, she asked me what I would like. I asked for a yellow Aston Martin. I now have a yellow Aston Martin on my mantelpiece. It wasn't quite what I meant!!. :( :( :(
