Agreed...all the talk of save the NHS...papering over the cracks of an underfunded service held together by staff doing daily 12hr shifts, I can't remember did MP's accept their pay increase?

Pay: In the air / no straight answer / waffle / no commitment.

I've lost count of the number of fourteen-hour shifts my wife has done. Her life is popping in for a shower, nap, snack, and then she's gone again.

That routine is very familiar. My partner would rather no one clapped, I cant write what she would like them to do with the clap! Only because these are some of the same hypocrites who soon after lockdown Ver 1.0 finished, started to moan and enter complaints about the NHS service they were getting while we were still under restrictions.

Can't understand the point of the clap IMHO - but if you say that, most automatically think you don't support the NHS! Most people within NHS I've seen don't appreciate the clap. (a lot online opinions)

It's just more noise to take attention away from the Govt. and their lack of support for the NHS. That, and as mentioned, all the hypocritical people who would've clapped and then gone out a week later breaking the rules...

It achieves nothing.

Just because you cannot see what it achieves, does not mean it achieves nothing.

What does clapping do then? Save lives? Protect the workers? Okay, raises a few people's moods. Not their salaries, though. :S

All my neighbours clapped in my pleasant close. My wife and I did not. Pointless!. No N.H.S. workers live near. But if they think we do not admire what they do, then they are very mistaken. I have had cause, over the years, to write to my Hospital's Chief Executive praising their work on several occasions. Much more effective than useless noise!!.[West Suffolk Hospital. Brilliant Staff etc.,]

Agreed there. If we had workers here then maybe I'd be more inclined. Second the staff comment about West Suffolk Hospital.

West Suffolk Hospital, excellent care received there, clapping ? nothing more than a diversionary exercise.....in my opinion.

We went out and clapped during the first round of clapping , probably so we don't feel left out to be honest. But it was a good opportunity to chat with your neighbours about Covid etc.
