Did anyone on here watch the drama about Winston Churchill the other night. I thought it was fantastic and portrayed him in a fabulous light. A great wartime leader who, in the words of his wife, was made for this...coupled with his bittersweet post war experiences. A great programme! What did others think?

Re: Into the storm!
Never mind the germans, what about the japs, they did far more than hitler and stalin together, mass murder chemical and biological warfare and that's just a taster, as far as i am concerned only getting two nukes was only a slap on the wrist to what they should have had, and still the arrogant s o bs wouldn't acknowledge the countless atrocitys they the japanese nation were responsible for.

Re: Into the storm!
Back on thread,
LMP: it was certainly a reasonably well produced programme, if you can forgive some of the rather mixed up flying sequences, but I felt it was a little too compressed to cover the subject in one go. Two programmes would have meant skipping many siginificent events and I think would have made it all the better.
I must be honest and say that I was also upset at they way that "retrospective" history once again tried to portray "Bomber" Harris as a mass murdering type. It seems Harris and Bomber Command are now fare game for would-be historians and T.V people who don`t seem to be able to put the difficult issues we (Great Britain), faced, within the context of this period.
Apart from that it hopefully made many younger people realise why the RAF is still regarded as being something rather special, and long may this image continue, despite our politicians best efforts to do otherwise.
Regards
John
PS: One can only hope that Peter Jackson`s Dambuster film doesn`t allow PC to undermine the historical facts, but some of the early signs are not good.

Re: Into the storm!
I completely agree!Flying Figgis wrote:I can agree with your points Focalplane, but nevertheless it was a very well produced, filmed and acted piece! Yes, some of the flying sequences were obviously a bit odd, Spit and Hurricane departing together, etc, nevertheless, a good film which I personally found quite moving at times. Also, watching this now just went further to show how current leaders are spineless and are more than happy to give away our country - even without a fight! Poor Winnie is probably turning on his grave right now!

John
BTW: I meant to say that two programmes would have meant NOT having to skip many significant events.

Lol Jim...the main debate in our house is why my gear has creases down the sides and not down the front! Men and ironing are not happy bedfellows! Haha xx
