The Stadler trains are AMAZING. Designated Class 755 - they are to be delivered as groups of four different types ( a bit like F35 A,B & C ) The BiMode diesel units (BMUs) have a short vehicle in the centre known as a 'power module'
In this little centre section are 4 (yes four !) 16 Litre V8 diesel engines, each of 644 hp. . Some BMUs will only have 2 diesel engines - these are the 3 car units.
The idea is that when overhead electrification is extended (or battery/fuel cell technology arrives) the 'modules' can be removed or replaced giving the traisets a 30 year lifespan.
Now...if only the Swiss made sixth generation fighters !

The driver resets the comms link these days.DAVEBRAD wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 8:55 amhi MR,
thanks for the update, on conditions as I said i'm out of touch. On your point about guards pulling the comm. cord I think you misunderstood my comment, I meant if a incident occurred and someone pulled it with cause or more likely nowadays misuse, without a guard the onus is on the driver to find the cause, then deal with it, then reset it...
regards,
dave...
Happy to help!

I for one will miss the Class 37’s that they’ve been using from Gt Yarmouth and Lowestoft to Norwich.
It’ll be the end of an era, there can’t be that many Diesel Loco hauled trains nowadays.
There’s one of the drivers who occasionally sets off the car alarms at GY station, a couple of weeks ago we were in Lowestoft and a 37 got a damn good thrashing away from the station, didn’t see it, but didn’t need to, it sounded excellent !
I’m not sure but I don’t think that they are environmentally friendly :-)
