Does anyone know if Gannet will remain open to support visiting Navy and other military aircraft ?

Would it be possible that one of Gannets Sea Kings might be installed as a Gate Guard at the new SAR Facility in tribute to the HMS Gannet Helicopters?, I see a post somewhere that one has been readied for Culdrose 771 Sqdn.

Everyone - that is Royal Navy and overseas forces who use it - want it to remain open. From what I gather from talking to some people involved, there is no immediate need for it to close even with the SAR requirement being taken over by Bristow.

It is a bit confusing but that is in reference to HMS Gannet Flight not the base itself, which as far as I know is still currently hosting a 203(R) Squadron Sea King

Yep, sorry, above that was with reference to the physical nature of Gannet rather than the current status of based aircraft etc.

Gannet is to remain as a FOB, A merlin det is expected for a short time each year , maybe a couple of months max, plus Joint Warrior aircraft will still use the facility. rest of the year it will be very quiet. That was the info as of the last day of SAR last month

It should be considered is there a requirement for a new anti sub Helicopter presence at PWK due to all UK sub assets being based on the Clyde in a few years .Plus the reported increased Russian sub activity in the area And the U.K. Having to rely on NATO for MPA.
