Thinking of calling in tomorrow afternoon. Can anyone please advise whether the two USMC Hercs are still present on TDY?

Hi,
Can anyone explain why a C17 was sitting next to the control tower with what looked like a fire engine next to it this afternoon and could you identify the C17.
Cheers John.

Heard the tower informing the C-17 that there was smoke coming from the left rear undercarriage just prior to take-off. Pilot then informed the tower that they would be shutting down on the runway, for 'about an hour' for an inspection, thus preventing any IFR departures from the airport for a time. Last thing I heard was that they were trying to find a tow bar....

Re: Tuesday 20th May
He aborted his 1st take-off very, very late and then threw everything out. Kept the camera on him expecting him to go off the end of the runway onto the railway line/golf course. He taxied round for another go but had a warning on tyres before the tower mentioned smoke. It looked as if he blew a tyre(s) while braking or the fusible plugs melted. It was a real comedy of errors. Got the impression it was a space cadet flying it. He missed so many ATC slots because of the crew fannying about. Example: starting engines with a bowser still attached. The tower asked him a number of times to move on to Rwy 20 but he refused even though it was stopping IFR arrivals/departures. Eventually it was towed round the corner and abandoned. Passed a nice afternoon in the sunshine.herky10 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 8:27 pmHeard the tower informing the C-17 that there was smoke coming from the left rear undercarriage just prior to take-off. If flying was difficult, the engineers would do it.
