Conjecture! There's nothing been announced about base closures yet.

Not conjecture, when you read the estates fact sheet:

I was at the internal briefing today, unfortunately
the base is closing as a Royal Air Force Station.
But the chances are it will probably be retained as an army base, either for 3 SCOTS (currently at Fort George) or for units returning from Germany.

Or 3 Scots(Black Watch) and 4 Scots(Highlanders) together or even parts of 7 Armoured, 20 Armoured, or 4Mech Brigades. There is alot of Army to come out of Germany and they need to go somewhere and Kinloss has the space to accommodate alot of it.
Although very sad at the news that RAF Kinloss will cease, you have to look at the future and maybe it still has a long future ahead, just in a different guise.
Lets hope so, but one thing for sure is the RAF at Kinloss will be sorely missed throughout the area of Moray and Nairn

If 3 SCOTS or whoever do return and are stationed at Kinloss will or would they be able to have an available runway for Transport Aircraft like Hercules, A.400 etc?

Very unlikely, the costs involved in keeping a runway open and all the services required to operate ie: Aviation Ground Lighting, ILS, PAR, ATC, Fire/Emergency support and alot more wouldn't be feasible. Unfortunately Kinloss as a flying station is dead

I know this has probably been asked already but what has happened with the Rescue Co-Ordination Centre? Has it been moved elsewhere or have the Army found a corner of the base for it?

Niall have you heard what the future plans for the ARCC as we currently know it are?
With the MoD to relinquish SAR capabilities is there any need for them to still run the nerve centre or will this go over to a DoT/HMCG contract as well?

Chaps my main reason for asking this question was because I don't remember it being mentioned when Kinloss's Army Future was being announced after the SDSR and the Nimrod thing etc. You ask a good question there Thunder, now that we know that the SAR Operation is going private will the RCC go to a Coast Guard Station or stay?

Both the ARCC and MRT at Kinloss were mentioned as staying put at Kinloss at the time of the SDSR, however since then the MRT has relocated to Lossiemouth as it's members are serving RAF personnel it makes sense. Although the same can be said for the ARCC at present but with no RAF/RN SAR assets within 3 years you do have to question it's future as an MoD run asset.
