Kinloss weather today totally pants, heavy wind, snow, low cloud - hardly idea for fly-pasts etc.

XV250 started up and taxied to the end of runway 25. It then sat there for around an hour (waiting for the weather to improve). Around 1720L the tower informed the crew that the weather wasn't going to improve and that it would be advisable not to fly :'( The crew responded "Ok thanks anyway, if it's ok with you can we stay here? (at the end of the runway) Then at 1710 Zulu taxi over to the party." The tower gave the crew permission. A sad day for all assoiciated with RAF Kinloss and the Nimrod :'(

I thought there hadn't been any action as I didn't hear anything land/take-off.

Well, we're used to the MoD lying to us, it continues. According to the MoD website - Last flight of the Nimrod MR2 not only did the Nimrod fly today, but today is Thursday 31st March 2010 - are they replacing the airframe we know and love with a time machine? Idiots!

Hi - this forum idea is all new to me but here goes!
Has anyone noticed that MR2 XV250 is due to fly to Elvington on Tuesday morning, 13th April? It is on the RAF website and York Air Museum's also. Elvington is non-ICAO so there isn't an airfield NOTAM covering this move - need FIR NOTAM to confirm.
I will be at Kinloss/Lossiemouth all of next week so does anyone have any updates on Lossiemouth re. Joint Warrior 10-1?
Guess I'll be seeing soem of you there?

I noticed via a thread on UKAR that Elvington is expecting their Nimrod to arrive around 10:30, no idea if the Nimrod is routing direct or not so will be over sharp. I'm up in the Kinloss/Lossie area all next week as well so I'll likely see you about.

2 days earlier on Sunday 11th April Thunder Day will see HP Victor and Buccaneer doing high speed taxi runs at Elvington.

Following extensive negotiations with RAF the the Nimrod is being maintained by YAM in full working condition and will join the Victor and Bucc on the next Thunder Day on 11th October.

Weather for Tuesday 13th is good so it should be an excellent opportunity to get close to this iconic machine.

Hope that helps
I think the landing time is 10.30Z which is 11.30Local, I have been told XV250 does not depart Kinloss until 10.00 Local and flight time to Elvington will be around 1 Hour
