It's going to be a long Q1 next year as we wait for some firm decisions.

What's Inverness got to do with it ? If they shut Lossiemouth then Elgin City and Lossiemouth town will be hit in a very, very big way - Forres is a large town next to Kinloss and is already devastated with the news.PeteHemsley wrote:tonkatom wrote:The goverment seem to do everything arse about face mate.its not a good thing to say,but i think that leuchars is the one to go.16 percent of jobs in scotland lost due to kinloss and lossiemouth.thats a lot of jobs.fifes a much more prepared and financially stable area than inverness.i dont want to see leuchars go but seems like thats more the likely one in my eyes.no base is safe these days
Nail head well hit
The 16 per cent quotation relates to the amount of jobs in the Moray and Nairn area that would be directly affected if both bases were to close. Indirectly I would put that figure closer to 75%. Although Inverness at first glance may not be directly affected, it too would face a serious knock on effect as alot of Service personal from Kinloss have set up home in the City and if you take into consideration the 140+ million pounds a year loss (just from the actual service personel) how much of that is spent in Inverness with it being the main shopping centre in the North?tonkatom wrote:Sorry not inverness, morayshire!and the 16percent was a stat they gave on a news website about the closure of the two bases.

Why is there absolute certainty, among forum posters, that either Lossiemouth or Leuchars must close? I was speaking to my Nephew recently, who is stationed at Lossiemouth. There is no specific concentration on these two bases anymore than any other bases. The net has been flung far further and wide than people seem to imagine, and nobody actually has a clue whicjh two R.A.F. Stations will eventually get the chop. The palava over the bases in Scotland seems increasingly like a local press engineered paranoid reaction. The result is for the last month or two, far too many posters on avaition forums have been working very hard at making the case for closing Leuchars in particular. Always with the usual preamble "Well I hate to say it, but...etc etc).tonkatom wrote:The goverment seem to do everything arse about face mate.its not a good thing to say,but i think that leuchars is the one to go.16 percent of jobs in scotland lost due to kinloss and lossiemouth.thats a lot of jobs.fifes a much more prepared and financially stable area than inverness.i dont want to see leuchars go but seems like thats more the likely one in my eyes.no base is safe these days
