Un recognised P8 mode-s arrived Lossiemouth

Post by Mark Lawley » Mon Feb 15, 2021 8:21 pm

Guys

Arriving at Lossiemouth in the last thirty minutes ago
Was a US Navy P8 showing mode--s / hex code AE684E
Think this maybe a replacement for the one that departed
earlier today
I know we're on Tier 4 restrictions but if anyone who maybe
On a walk could they possibly identify this machine

Mark,

AE684E was RIDER10 168850 from doing its afternoon Prestwick "session".

AE683A was RIDER12 from Sigonella......serial not reported on here as yet.

Both would have arrived at around the time you mention.

Guys

Just had a look at the aviation data base I edit on and we
show ~

Tactical Mode -s and hex codes codes of AE67 - - and the
AE68- - range are used at random for missions

Just to add to Bob''s reply the AE683A trace showed an out/return trip from Lossiemouth to Sigonella on the tracking sites but even though the same hex was used throughout they have previously done this trip swapping airframes but retaining same hex. Demonstrates the limitations of tac hex traces and the value of confirmation derived from an actual sighting

169548 was pinging on the ground at Lossie this morning, now its stopped, I missed the HEX, so it looks like it returned from Sigonella last night.
I do what the voices in my head tell me to do!!!!

Jim

Non of the US Navy P8's are not issued with a fixed
Hex / mode-s code
Was probably chiming one of the AE68- - or AE67 - - codes
So basically we will never know the identity of an
Individual aircraft unless it's confirmed by mark 1
Eye ball elsewhere

Just to clarify all USN P-8s are actually issued with a fixed Mode-S hex code. They have just recently started using a bank of tactical codes instead of their actual fixed codes in the past few years.

Sam

As you say in the past they were issued with a fixed mode -s
/ hex code but no longer as I said they now only use tactical
Codes

Not strictly true , still plenty of occurrences of P-8s using there proper Hex codes one of Lossie detachment was plotting showing its full id on Tuesday morning also seen P-8s in Japan and the US this week showing full ID.

Guys

just to let you all know that after just checking the ADU main data base it
does conclude that as you guys say all P-8's do have fixed call signs
I was using the ADU ' have I seen it app ' which only shows the tactical
information in the notes there so I'd like to say sorry for being a doubting Thomas
Apple pie and stand in the corner jobbie
