Lossiemouth 2019 Visitor Statistics

Post by vulcanxl425 » Mon Dec 30, 2019 3:46 pm

Have still been around since my last posting back in late October but with next to no visitors did not post a log for any visit here.Back again anyway with a review of this years visitors from my own records for the base.Firstly as you will be only too aware the impact on visiting and based aircraft with construction work for the arrival of the P-8 has had a profound effect and a huge decrease.Military visitors this year totalled only 194 compared to 2018 and 323. Strangely civil visitors (excluding the usual Jetstreams) were up to 67 from last years 47.
Top military aircraft in numbers visiting were as follows
1) Hawks
2) Typhoons/EF2000
3) C-130 Hercules
Most notable was the loss in number of MPA visiting with only 12 P-8s.No CP-140,P-3 or ATL2 unfortunately .In 2018 we had a total of 60 of all types of MPA.Lets hope with the new hangar facilities from 2021onwards we shall see an increase again and maybe Joint Warrior returning?
Highlights in my opinion of what visitors we did get.
February - 4 x Tornado A/c from Marham (flypast prior to out of service)
March - 2 x Italian EF2000
Late April- 4 x SP F-16s till 17/5
June - 2 x Mirage 2000D FrAF
August - 2x R Nor AF Falcon 20ECM
" G-IRTY Silver Spitfire plus "Reds" transiting to USA with support
September ZZ191 Hunter from Scampton
Incidentally last ever visit of a Tucano to here was ZF142 back in July. We are still awaiting a first visit from a Marham F-35B which seem reluctant to come this far north.46 different aircraft types have visited compared to 2018 total of 58.
We shall have to remain patient until all the construction work next year is hopefully completed on time and we see the arrival of the first RAF P-8 making the short transit from Kinloss.Hopefully the NOTAM on no visiting aircraft will go away !
Thanks especially to Jim and Niall for posting logs and to all others for their help and information this year.
With a new decade coming it just remains to wish all on Fighter Control a Happy New Year.
Al

Al

Maybe hopefully HMS Queen Elizabeth will pop up around the Moray firth area and we'll get one of the seven based on her making an appearance, we all can't live in Hope as that's only a small town in Derbyshire 🤭😊

Anyway Al happy new year to you and all the other guys at Lossiemouth
