Typhoon ZJ 919 ( New markings)

Post by vulcanxl425 » Wed Aug 09, 2017 7:20 pm

Seen by Paul this week emerging from the paint shop ZJ 919 is in 6Sqn markings with an additional badge on nose noting "Sir Roderic " the 3rd Baron of Douneside acceding to the title following death of his older brother. He served as a Flt Lt pilot with 6 Sqn flying Hurricanes in the Middle East but was KIA in 1941. His body was buried at Mosul cemetery
Normally" MacRoberts Reply" is associated with 15 Sqn but the name "Sir Roderic" was carried on a Hurricane of 94 Sqn and also by a Swallow glider operated for Air Training Corps.

Still to see the the badge closely but nice that the tradition is still being continued today.

Really nice to see the MacRobert legacy live on at Lossie, albeit in a different form to 'MacRobert's Reply''. Following her donation in 1941 of £25,000 to purchase 'MacRobert's Reply, Lady Rachel MacRobert made a further donation of £20,000 to the RAF in 1942 for the purchase of four Hurricanes, three of which were named after her three sadly deceased sons, with the fourth being named after Lady Rachel herself. A remarkable woman, a remarkable story and a legacy which deserves to live on. Well done 6 Squadron!
