RAF Lossiemouth - Out of Bounds

Well that's how it's going to end up if visitors are so up themselves that they don't care about how much they destroy the livelyhood of the local farmers, just as long as they get their pictures.

To the first visitor that tramped through what is obviously a newly sown field (at RW05) I say shame on you. To those who followed because somebody else had already done so I say shame on you (two wrongs don't make a right). To the many, especially yesterday, and particularly the nine 'enthusiasts' who trampled throught the field this morning (after having been informed previously to not do so) I say shame on you. And to the chap and his daughter who crossed back over the field this evening after I shouted not to do so, showed no remorse and when asked the question 'you couldn't give a toss could you'? and just shrugged his shoulders I say shame on you. To the chaps wife who said to me that they didn't cross the field when I watched them blatently do it along with several witnesses I say don't attempt to defend the guilty.

So here's what I suggest - why don't you all give me a shout after you've spent many hours digging, raking, preparing your garden, planted your veggies and I'll pop round, march back and fore until the soil is trodden so hard that nothing will grow and see how you like it? Seems fair to me.

Two other unsavoury incidents were a) the enthusiasts who went into the gardens at the MOD houses to photograph the HH-60 on the wash pan - not the crime of the century unless you were the folks who entered by the front gate, went past the house and out the back gate towards the garages. Imagine somebody doing that at your property?

b) the carload of folks who parked at the crash gate by the big house on the corner of Drainie Road, proceeded down the fence line, climbed over the wall and into the garden and proceeded to the furthermost point where they could get an exclusive pic. The police have your car make, model, colour and registration so expect a visit from your local Constabulary any day now.

To all above who have created ill-feeling in the local aviation enthusiast community in Lossiemouth, you are not welcome back here. Also I have pictures/car reggies of all of the field tramplers and before the forumites say name and shame, I don't know names but I'm hopeing by printing this rant that any returning offenders think twice about repeating their indiscretions. The local enthusiasts have a good rapport with the farmers and local community but following this exercise I think we're back to square one.

A quick word about parking at 23/leaving enough space at the end for cars to turn/parking off the track etc. The local police had to be called at the start of last week following a couple of incidents. Grow up, man up and show some respect - and that goes for everybody who erred this past fortnight.

Finally I would like to thank the true enthusiasts who heeded the local advice yet still came away with all the shots they wanted. I hope we supplied just that little bit extra info and got you some shots the field trampers didnt. Thanks for your company and banter - I think I've just shrunk another four inches

Totally agree!!!

We don't want another situation like what has occurred at Leeming and the farmers field flap, it just creates bad feeling for all true enthusiasts with the locals

Well said. I was at Lossiemouth last week (23 end), and until the last day of the trip, had no idea about the viewing areas around at the 05 end. It will be A minority of Typical small minded idiots who think 'I want that exclusive shot so I can get a couple hundred likes on a facebook page and some favourites on Flickr. It is those small minded idiots who will be the first ones to complain and kick up a fuss when people start to ban people from using their fields etc.

Well said, Al. We had a similar situation when the Saudis arrived at Coningsby in 2013. People were parking in the farmers fields and then walking over them and once normality had returned (once the Saudis departed) we had litter strewn all over the viewing areas and the fences had been damaged.

Steven.

Totally agree. It defies all logic except in the minds of the knuckle draggers.

Following on from the post by Chris and self fully agree Al with what you say.At 23 end we had people parking on the track used mainly by the golf club and horse riders.

Let us hope the idiots actions have not soured completely the relationship enjoyed by us locals.

Will be on "litter" patrol after Joint Warrior as well.

Absolutely unbelievable, if you didn't write this Al then I would've struggled to believe how people could be so senseless and ignorant, then again just look around everywhere you go nowadays and it's everywhere.

Hopefully for those that frequent Lossie on a regular basis these idiots are visitors and don't really have have interest in the hobby so won't be back anytime soon nor will they read this forum, if not and they are known enthusiasts then shame them.

Just to add to what has already been expressed on this vexed issue, I have to say that in all the 60-odd years I have been a regular visitor to Lossiemouth, I have never witnessed anything like the gratuitously intemperate and often rather offensive behaviour of some of those who formed the gallery of "enthusiasts" during "Joint Warrior". And to add injury to insult, on returning to my car last Thursday (which I had parked I believe courteously and sensibly short of "The Track"), I discovered that some charmer had shunted the front end, causing considerable damage. A note of apology under the wiper blade? Huh!

Such a shame. I think in future I shall confine my visits to days when some vestige of normality is restored.

In a fortnight i have seriously valued all the activity and opportunities to see a pretty constant stream of interesting stuff, i feel embarrassed to have been part of it reading this. I heard someone even jumped the fence at the start of the week. Planes cancelling approaches? What next?

Is there any truth in that, or were they just planned overshoots?

No Mike - I can confirm the tower cancelled a few approaches due to people on the undershoot. It's happened before and over the past few weeks base security and the RAF Police have been moving folks on from the undershoot. The RAF Police have been doing the rounds and have had nothing but compliments for the visiting enthusiasts excluding those standing on the hatched areas. Of course they have no authority over the farmers fields.

Cheers Al, so when do the contractors move in to build a fence around the undershoot to keep the morons out? :grr:

Saw a broken fence post last year near to the 05 threshold, then the next day a new one appeared with a bloke using the gap to slip a tripod leg through it. Unreal. Just for that extra foot closer with your tripod. It's more the fact that folk do it with little care that it will eventually impact everyone that annoys me. Lossie enjoys amazing unrestricted viewing, but sooner or later they can quite easily make that more difficult for everyone.
