Sounds like the C-9 is about to depart. Well, something American is anyways, haven't got a callsign but it's a good guess.

EDIT - Convoy 6122, cleared for take-off.

I think it came in from Sigonella with tail code "LL" which would make it from VP30, can anyone confirm this?
c/s of P3 was Navy LN451 serial on flight plan 159507

The C130T was from VR53 "Capital Express" based at Andrews AFB.

Hopefully they'll be some Herc moves tomorrow and Tuesday

Does someone know which P-3 of VP-16 has the colourfull markings ?
VP-16 is preparing for an upcoming deployment which will start late November next. On return after six months, this squadron will pass its Orions to other Jacksonville squadrons, because it will be the first squadron to operate the new P-8A Poseidon and will start training for this type with VP-30 in June 2012.

Hi, regarding listening to comms online - I don't think it's possible - I've certainly tried but have been unsuccessful. Any advice would be appreciated (I'm guessing the best bet is to shell out and purchase a good scanner!).

The Orions and Atlantiques have been fairly busy over the weekend - both seen/heard over-head Nairn heading West night and day. Watched a pretty spectacular lofting attack from a Tornado in the Firth, Friday evening about 1930hrs. Ran in low level from Southwest and started it's pull-up adjacent to Inverness Airport - think it may have been targeting one of the ships anchored off-shore Nairn? Pretty impressive stuff.

Cheers

Update from the West Coast

Post by Hunter » Sun Oct 09, 2011 10:42 am

Absolutely correct! Rain was extremely heavy, though the light made for some interesting images - and we did have the occasional burst of sunlight. I went over to the West Coast on Monday and stayed for the week. Because of rough seas the minesweepers couldn't get around the Mull of Kintyre until Wednesday, though Bulwark arrived on Tuesday. Frigates, destroyers and supply ships also arrived on Tuesday. Ground forces included at least the British Army, Swedish air defence, Germans and US Marine Corps.

Warships seen were from the RN, USN, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Portugal (?) and possibly two other navies.

Flying wasn't observed until the Tuesday (a Dornier - G-MAFE - which flew all day, every day, regardless of the weather, and sometimes nice and low), with low level Hawks first picked up on Thursday (flying in pairs and providing what I can only describe as the most impressive flying 'display' I've ever seen!), and low level Falcons on Friday with at least two GR4s or Luftwaffe Tornados 'attacking' the warships in The Minches. P3s were heard - even in the early hours - but not seen. Medium level GR4 was seen Friday afternoon over Little Loch Broom, but couldn't tell if this was part of the exercise.

Regardless of the weather it was worth going if only to see and photograph different aspects of the exercise.

Heard that there'll be more intensive flying over the West Coast next week, but cannot confirm.

Yup, XX240 and XX303, not sure where 303 has gone, but haven't seen it since Tuesday.
Also appears to be another Falcon, G-FRAT was seen today.
Good chance of a Herc in the next few days as 012 came back on three engines, apparently a complete engine failure
