Swiss AF F-18s 24-11-21

Post by Bluetail » Wed Nov 24, 2021 3:58 pm

The same two F-18s as yesterday (J-5001 & J-5234) using the same callsigns "Copper 01 & 02". The difference today was that J-5001 was carrying a "Live" AMRAAM

Will we ever see the Swiss back at Lossie for the Exercise which seems to have moved to Leeming? I honestly thought they had only moved it due to the Runway works and or Covid?

I'm happy to be proved wrong but I can't see the Swiss coming back to Lossie. It's a lot of extra miles for half a dozen or so artics to transport their support equipment this far north, and the ramp space they used is now taken up by P-8s.

I had heard they preferred the HAS ops rather than hangar/ramp but maybe misheard. Certainly a shame as I got some lovely shots of them rolling off the end of 23 a few years back.

I agree with that..................Lossie is now pretty crowded, and the old Charlie/Delta ramp will be full of P8's and Wedgetails (well, 2 or 3 maybe). Let's hope that there is not a general fall in the amount of future visitors, and detachments.

Ah I see now what you mean, no wonder they swapped Lossie for Leeming. With the space they had the last time now occupied by the P-8s plus that new hangar and with future basing of 3 Wedgetails space is going to be tight that side of the Airfield. I remember well the days of the Shackletons and Jaguars on that side of Lossie, mind you since then we had the 15 sqdn Tornados.

Just out of interest where is the Visiting Aircraft parking area at Lossie these days?

They could always take up SE HAS site at Leuchars, lots of lovely airspace and low level opportunities :D lol
