Red Flag 19-1

Post by tm74sqn » Thu Jan 17, 2019 11:54 am

I believe that about 8 Typhoons of 6 Sqn have departed to attend Red Flag 19-1 at Nellis AFB. Does anyone know exactly when they departed and which ones they were?
Cheers, TM74

Believe on 14/1 following Typhoons involved.
Ascot 9815 ZK 317
Ascot 9816 ZK 305
Ascot 9817 ZK 308
Ascot 9812 ZK 312

16/1 leaving Lossie
Ascot 9818 ZK 338

This is based on info from other sources within F/Control. Not sure if more Typhoons left here in last few days.

To add to the list (from what I have gleaned from the other posts)

Ascot 9811 ZK307
Ascot 9813 ZK424
Ascot 9814 ZK323

Cheers

Yup,

If I recall correctly, ZK307 and ZK323 returned with maintenance issues and ZK424 returned because of fuel state concerns. I would like to think that 424 actually made it out the next day and the others got fixed... but, so hard to tell on this one.....

Hi Al,

Sorry to be a pain in the...... Is ZK338 definitely confirmed for RRR9818 on 16th, as the hex that it used [AAAAAA] is a default setting?

Yes, I am aware of the SBS log for the day. However, that hex was used by ZK307 on 9th when transitting to Lossie as "Nightmare21", by ZK362 on 20/12/2018 as "RRR9812", by ZK322 on 27/11/2018 as "Cobra51",........and so on (tie-ups per Milky's site).

Also, to add confusion, the Voyager (RRR9402) which dragged it was ZZ338.

If anything, there could be the possibility that ZK307 was the aircraft concerned as RRR9818, having retained the hex code temporarily.

Cheers,

Bob

Bob I took info for RR 9818 off SBS Scotland log of 16/1. Didn't realise HEX code uncertainty so you may well be right regarding it not being ZK338. Hopefully we will get clarification on this one.

No problem, Al. I just wanted to be certain. It's a pity that there was no Lossie log for 15th or 16th, but I suspect that the weather was not conducive to spotting.

No doubt Scramble will report all the serials present at Nellis, and hopefully the Eastern Seaboard site will produce something, too.

Still there mid-p.m. were : - 307 , 323 , 330 , 340 , 374 , 424 . ( So 308 , 312 , 315 ( not 305 ) , & 317 departed ) . On Tuesday 15th , ZK340 , 374 , & 424 all departed at 1430 , & 307 remained on the line . On Wednesday 16th , ZK323 departed ( not 338 ) , & 330 was outside the hangar . All the 10 Typhoons , including 315 , had just the last 3 on the fin , standard colours , & no unit markings .

Correction ! : - On 16/1 , ZK323 did NOT depart ; RRR9818 was most likely ZK307 . ( ZK 330 still there late on 16/1 , ZK323 still there 21/1 ) . Sorry !

Though whether ESACML got them from FC (I have my suspicions).........
.
Reading through the above, it would appear that the other four were ZK340/374/424 and (probably) ZK307.

Don't worry, though. They will be read off at Nellis and reported on Scramble.
Cheers, Bob
