Last night's meeting was attended by 30 club member's, Peter started his lecture with a video named "Start Up"
This was the start up procedure on the Flying Fortress first one engine cranked and sputtered into life followed by the other three, the scene shifted to the end of the runway there the fortress revved up its engines and started its take off roll and rotated straight above the cameraman it was a very evocative sound.

Peter started his lecture with a detailed description of the engineering aspects of the aircraft. Followed by how the Fortress performed its bombing role in the second world war.

Apart from Sally B there are 12 other Flying Fortresses operating in the world today.

At the end of the lecture one of our members declared that he had heard that passenger flights may be authorised later this year.

This was the third lecture that Peter has given to the club a vote of thanks was given by our Ex Chairman Trevor, and a well deserved vote of thanks was the order of the day.

I know one of Sally B's flight engineers through a car club I'm in. He say's it's highly unlikely Sally B will ever take fare paying passengers. The problem is that European & CAA rules mean insurance is based on weights, and for 3rd party liability this puts the B-17 in a similar weight class to a large biz-jet or small airliner - for example a BMI Embraer 135/145. And for passengers you need roughly £250K insurance cover per passenger. Charity operators like Sally B will never be able to afford the insurance premiums.
