Post by johnhowe » Wed Jan 07, 2015 4:49 pm

For the last 3 days I have been engaged in post Santa duties at Ribble Steam Railway, yesterday Tarnish 9 was aloft in a Hawk T2 we saw it on finals to runway 25 the flightpath is within half a mile of our station.

Today Wed 7th we heard the thunder of two RB 199s belonging to Tornado GR4T ZD 742 coded 090 was it roared down 25.

Braved the icy wind of a windswept Warton to see my first flight of 2015, as luck would have it Tarnish 29 taxied out in Typhoon ZK 303 Coded AX rotated at 13.15
back into the circuit for a touch and go to land at 14.54pm local.

This was the second occasion I had seen Tarnish 29, the first when he autographed a copy of "Test Flying in Lancashire" his career resume are on pages 282/283/284

the runway caravan, he engaged a single engine reheat the EJ 200 positively glowed orange as the light from the setting sun was receding a nice end to the day.

Log for Mon 26th arrived PM just as a T2 Hawk was flying in the Warton overhead, 10 minutes later at approx at 13.50pm Saudi Tornado coded 703 was towed out of 358

There was some interesting comms on the usual Warton freqs Rebel 60 who was flying over the Irish sea was warned that a Typhoon Turbo was also in the vicinity

and to be aware. Tarnish 69 returned to Warton in a T2 Hawk and on landing, parked on the northside. Then the rains came even heavier time for an early tea.

The comms were 264.7. 241.925. 280.350.231.450.

15.20pm a T2 Hawk Victor 83 flew an ILS approach to R 25 en-route to Valley.

16.28pm Rebel 59 taxies out from the south side in Typhoon EB-H turns at the caravan is given permission to climb unrestricted to
8,000 feet he immediately plugged in the afterburners and rotates before Charlie and quickly disappears into the gathering gloom
of heavy drizzle Rebel 59 clears 8k,15k and within a short time is levelling out at 40k RTB Home Plate.

I forgot to mention that two engineers were doing engine runs in Tornado GR 4 ZD 742 coded 90 outside 358 hangar, they stated that all
was well for the GR 4 to fly on Wednesday. Hopefully this will be AM before the threatened snow starts falling.
