LOG: Altcar Training Camp - Thu 17/01/2019

Post by Mike Baron » Thu Jan 17, 2019 6:50 pm

The following were noted today at the Army Training Camp at Altcar, near Formby/Hightown, Lancs.

ZZ379 and ZZ380 Wildcats.

ZK553 and ZK563 Chinooks

ZH857 Merlin Royal Navy

(ZJ126)/K and (ZJ132)/Q Merlins, I only read the codes. Another Merlin was also seen on the field but was unreadable through trees! I was told it was ZJ130/O.

Kind regards.

Thanks Mike, is their a good spot from which to view the Helo's, from outside the fence? Not familiar with Altcar myself.

from the public right of way next to the railywayline - the wildcats and merlins are not in good positions (behind trees with wildcats more easily visible than ex RAF merlins); no issues with chinooks or RN merlin but please see my earlier posting.
I got a verbal assault from a MoD Security bloke around 1015z yesterday whilst taking images from along footpath/cyclepath adjacent to where chinooks were parked on sportsfield. I wasnt attempting to climb over the fence, I had no steps (which should have made no difference but he said that I had!); There were no troops included in my shots etc etc
Good luck anyhow stuff will be going today. Cheers

2 Chinooks and 2 Merlins have already left. I seen them heading south over the A580 on my way into work around 9.45am. Judging by ADSB I think the Wildcats may have left a short while later.
