The Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron will parade through Church Fenton village on Sunday 15 December .

Sadly there will be no flypast to mark the occassion but there will be a welcoming flypast at Linton on Thursday 19 December to mark the official arrival of YUAS .

I understand that Church Fenton will close by March 2014 with Topcliffe becoming Lintons main RLG with the ILS at Fenton being removed and re-located up to Topcliffe .

As posted elsewhere the cadets also marching on Sunday, ending at White Horse pub at 1515 for a reception (its also the village Elf trail if anyone is interested!). Church Fenton community website suggests a flypast of based aircraft but there's been very little weekend flying of late so I'd tend to agree with you on that.

The info I have been told, there's a ceremony/farewell party on friday 13th on base approx 4pm onwards with possible aircraft arriving and on the sunday there is a parade marching through Fenton(not heard of any flypast for Sunday).

I would like to note that 2434 ATC are not disbanding or moving, they will be fenced off from the rest of the base, so please continue to support and encourage your kids to join up and keep it's future secure for generations to enjoy.

As for Church Fenton i'm lead to believe it will de-active year end, but will effectively close on the 20th Dec when everyone finishes for Xmas. Apparently the airbase is going under the hammer in March/April time, due to a lot of interest. So if anyone's got a few pennies laying about get yourself to the auction

More to muddy the puddle...

Can confirm cadets 'compound' already fenced-off - good to retain a RAF presence of sorts. Deciding how best to mark/record/commemorate the station's history would be a great project for them for which I'm sure there'd be ample community support too.

Bring on the wind farms... :(

Sundays parade through Church Fenton has CANCELLED due to admin/paperwork not been filled in on time, so it looks like Fenton's farewell is going to pass through very quietly indeed, It really is a shame because of all the history and what it's brought to the community over the year's it deserves a better send off :'( :'(

With all due respect Stuart, that's not the reason why the parade was cancelled.

It would appear that way davski, it deserves a better ending.

Damn right Stuart. Maybe someone should forward a copy of Peter Mason's excellent "Fighting-Church Fenton", Nicholson VC or even Tom Neil's "Gun button to fire" - darn travesty. The old adage regarding a p*ss up in brewery springs to mind...!

Well if that's the case we should all hang our heads in shame.
