New QEAF Hawks

Interesting Topic, but like a lot of things, the final outcome will only be known by those working on the project.

"Advanced jet Trainer" is a widely used term; didn't it apply to Hawk T1's when the Primary (Jet) Trainer was the Jet Provost ?

"AJT" was also the term used by BAE Systems (NOT BAe - sorry that's my long standing complaint!) for developments following the major investment on the Mk.127 "LIF" (Lead In Fighter for the RAAF). The Mk.128/TMk.2 had the integrated systems with 3-MFD display and added Radar simulation, Moving Map, etc. and this is the baseline for Mk.165/166/167.
There is a lot of work at the Design Organisation (BAE Systems, mainly at Brough) and with the MoD & MAA getting the Mk.167 cleared for operations in UK airspace due to the differences in specification from the TMk.2, over and above those needed for development flying. I guess they will keep the ZBxxx registrations.

As an aside, the aeroplane carries a Registration number, as defined in JAP.100 (somewhere, I forgot where I left my note), not serial or tail number. A colleague of mine many years ago actually went into the office who allocated these and there was a big dusty ledger, like something out of the Victorian era ! I expect this has been "modernised" since.

Quite right, the MAA list it as an "Aircraft Registration Number".

Not sure how much modernisation has taken place though!

The country that, for several years, and until very recently, severed diplomatic ties with Qatar? and stopped Qatar airways aircraft overflying Saudi airspace?

Also, I'm pretty sure the RSAF training is still very much managed and provided by the UK, via BAES anyway isn't it? not sure they can offer independent home grown training?

Call me a cynic, but I'm not sure I'd want to invest for long term in a such a fragile environment?

If that is the case Off Airways, then why are 12 Sqn Still training QEAF pilots, And even Cosford are training groundcrew.

5 QEAF Hawks have now flown and the IOC date has been quoted as the 1st of September at Leeming.Not aware that any have been seen painted yet but delivery of some must be soon, anyone add to this?

My guess is they will be painted prior to delivery at Warton. I understand they will have the RAF 3-layer black scheme which is quite a specialist job to apply.

The paintshop at Warton is certainly painting these.
What is the source for the black scheme?
The grey painted ‘inaccessible’ area behind the intakes is usually a good clue as to the final scheme (one of the camo colours?)...

I asked the question on the Warton fb page (there's lots of pics of them test flying on them there) and got the answer.
I thought they would be in an export c/s, but there are a lot of additional clearances required with the MoD (for operations, over and above MRCOA test flying), so am not surprised. In the past "special" colour schemes on Hawks have caused headaches !
