As many others starved of any fast jet action this year I may make the very long trip up for this. Has anyone got any tips or advice regarding this deployment?

Of course I know its no guarantee, but it would be good to know what sort of tempo of operations they held last year. Was it just the Hornets in attendance or did Typhoons join them at Leeming?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Can anyone confirm if the viewing enclosure is open again please ? The last time I popped in one weekend a few months ago it looked overgrown in there, I.e. unused. Not seen it like that before. If people will be making the journey it would be good to know where to view from.
Thanks and regards,
Paul

Thanks for all the great info chaps, I think I might need to book a hotel!

Incidentally, what other activity can I expect at Leeming on a typical day?

In November, four seasons in 1 hour! Last year the sorties were just over an hour, and you can practise on the Hawks and Grobs while you are waiting. Please park sensibly if you're not in the viewing area the locals are not amused when they can't access their homes and businesses.

Spent most days at Leeming last year when this Ex was on and I can honestly say it was not even worth travelling to Leeming. First sorties were not till around 14:00 to 15:00, & there was no Practice diverts what made each trip even worse. Morning entertainment during the exercise was Hawks & Grobs only.

Cheers Arfa,

Its about a 4.5 hour trip for me so i'll probably get a hotel on a Thursday night, arrive at the viewing area early Friday and leave late. I know its a risk of course, but with such slim pickings this year i'm willing to take the chance!

Never been to Leeming before so don't know what to expect, but a day out is a day out :)

It's a night exercise, what were you expecting?

... and it can't have been that bad if you went most days! :)

Maybe i'll regret it but i've booked a hotel and a day off... if there's no Hornets i'll go to Elvington, and if Elvington gets closed due to Covid i'll just have to go sightseeing at on the Moors!

Wish me luck...
