Was that puma read off please or serial from mode-S? "ZJ955" callsign SHF238 from adsb showing over west Lancs yesterday early pm but could have been actual serial XW213. Hexcode 43C28F.

Cheers

From my pics it was coded "X", which ties up with ZJ955 from a search on the internet

I can make the "X" out clearly, but not the reg. I can only make out a "Z" and a "9" through the soot. Scramble have "X" as ZJ955 in june 2019.

Some of the Puma's have the serial repeated next to the fuel inlet which if I recall is on the port side
Handy if the boom serial is covered in soot
I presume this repeat marking is to make the fuel handlers job a bit easier on the sooty 'frames

The Puma ZJ955 at Leeming Wednesday had the serials repeated on the main helicopter body both sides of the big door. On the starboard side.

Thanks All. Interesting stufg. Sorry I now realise I was getting confused with "ZJ957" [43C2B0] aka XW231 with miscoded box.
XW213/ZJ955/ZJ956 departed Woodvale and returned to Benson today.
"ZJ957" (XW231) "SHF395" departed Woodvale and went Nth this am.
All in all a b*gg*rs muddle...
Cheers
