USN F-18 deployment

Post by herky » Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:39 pm

In July there will be a deployment at Leeming with F-18E's from VFA-113 USN. Two of the Hornets will attend the air show at Yeovilton.
Best regards,

Martin

From the RAF Leeming Spotters Group on Facebook :-

"With regards to the pair of US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet deploying to Leeming in July, I can confirm this is true.
The pair from VFA-113 will be flying direct from NAS Leemore, via Canada, Greenland & Iceland, so no tanker support, and will take about 2 days.
The pair are scheduled to arrive Thursday 11th July, and will be working with RAF Typhoon during their QWI exercise.

The pair will fly down to Yeovilton on the Friday, and return on the Monday.

One of the pilots is a former RN Harrier pilot.

They are scheduled to be in the UK around 2 weeks.

Obviously this is all subject to weather, serviceability & operational requirements."

Thanks for the heads up Martin. It'll be nice to see some fast jets at Leeming.
I wonder if they might participate in the RIAT NATO flypast too.

So from this I would take it not a Squadron Deployment but just the 2 aircraft which is one heck of a mission for VFA-113

Rumours are either 5 or 4 jets - hope they are also at RIAT?

Royal navy website still has them down to attend but I do not know how often the site gets updated.

Not very often.

Meteor, Hunter & Sea King listed, they've all cancelled.

A post on the Leeming FB group reckons that the deployment has been cancelled completely.

The North South divide has always traditionally been the Watford Gap for Southerners. For Northerners its Manchester, haha!!

For real proper Northerners it's Hadrian's Wall, I'm not talking about those so-called "Northerners" that breed whippets, have a ferret up each trouser leg, wear a flat cap, drink Boddington's, grow forced rhubarb in their attics and sell the same homing-pigeon 28 times on ebay.

Manchester? For those of us in the true North (Newcastle), Manchester is the Midlands :D :D

Ok
So can we define the North as being
A/ The North East
B/ Yorkshire
C/ The North West
D/ Client towns .. such as Crewe / Chesterfield / Scunthorpe & Greater Grimsby

Can we define the South with such Clarity ?

Easy. The South is everywhere south of the A303. The Midlands is everywhere north of the A303, but south of the M4. The North is everywhere north of the M4. Scotland starts somewhere near the M42/A5/M54 (no survivors from recent expeditions north of this line so the exact position is uncertain). The South West is the area south of the A303 and West of Sailsbury (or Wincanton depends on your definition of West). "London" is everywhere south and east of the area bounded by the A34 and A14/A43.
