There will be increased aircraft movement for an exercise taking place from RAF Leeming from 21 February to 8 March 2019.

The Station will be hosting an exercise involving increased air and ground movement. Low flying for short periods may be necessary, along with 24-hour operations.

We understand our responsibility as good neighbours to inform the local community of such events that are additional to our normal flying activities and every effort will be made to keep the disturbance to a minimum.

Comparison with today's Lossiemouth log (in that section) would suggest that ZK330/330 is the missing number.

Does any One happen to know the name of this exercise?

seems odd that they have moved such a short distance to carry out an exercise? Could they be simulating being based there, there was rumour that some early Typhoons were looking for a home last year. I'm sure our more well informed contributors can shed some light on this, hopefully without the mocking scorn given to a post last year.

Construction work at Lossie is quite extensive
Taxiway and ramp access may be restricted and with multiple a/c using the field just getting around and conducting flying op.s will be challenging for launch/recovery
AddItionally loose construction debris and dust is a constant hazard as we saw at Marham
It makes a lot of sense to operate away from a building site I would say. They still need to demolish the old tower and build a new one and with the P8's not due there until next year or later there is a lot more to do yet.
It is nice to see a HAS equipped airfield put to it's intended purpose for once. Leeming could do well as a Typhoon base in future.
Bear in mind that common sense is not a pre-requisite for government policy.

It seems so obvious doesnt it - locating a couple of Typhoon squadrons somewhere geographically between Lossie and Coningsby! So obvious that I doubt it will ever happen :)

Agreed. Leeming has long been seemingly deliberately under-utililsed but retains strategic significance for future basing options.
In the short term we may see a change in fast jet operations, possibly basing, when the new contractor training contract starts in January 2020.
The FRA op.s at Teesside will need to be replaced by either new a/c or new contract provider based elsewhere ...

Distance isn't really the point though, although it's 400 miles or so by road I'd guess, if you're testing your expeditionary air wing and the ability to move a complete operation (not just aircraft, but support and engineering and logistics and everything that goes along with it) then that will give you all you need.

Agreed . Four came over Teesmouth today heading West around 3:10pm looked to be on a line with DTVA perhaps setting up a turn for recovery to Leeming
They were at about 6000' and from memory only ZK346 displayed on adsb for the formation.
Was anyone at Leeming this afternoon please to confirm which ones they were ?
Earlier reports from Coningsby suggest that the adsb identities have been swapped between some Typhoons meaning SBS trace/virtual radar tracks are no longer a guarantee of a/c identity
Thanks and regards,
Paul

Are they operating from the HAS, or from a flightline? More to the point, can they be seen from the viewing area, when not flying?

Advice would be really helpful.
