From the 12th of July, RAF Leeming will host another Ex Chameleon. This usually involves a large amount of helicopter activity, and as stated by the NOTAM, there will be para-jumping exercises. It concludes on the 31st of July. I'm not sure what the situation is regarding the viewing area, as I am aware it has been locked on previous exercises.

How does viewing work for these sorts of exercises?? I'm on holiday by Downholme Moor (not spelt right) when the exercise is on - Is it a case that the area is restricted or can I simply turn up and watch some of the exercise??

Generally the viewing area is shut for these exercises. At one time you could drive round to the water works towards the end of the runway but I believe that is now locked off due to boy racers though happy to be corrected.

Hi Chris. I was at Leeming today... There is still the same open access to the lane leading to the scrap yard and I spent a nice 3 hours there today, however the waterworks further down is locked but I never saw that as a vantage point for photography, always preferred the place before which is open, and last time I was at the waterworks I was bombarded by flies!

So I am sure people are aware this is the main reason for the tight security around the base. I also hope to attend nearby this time around.....
...as the drops up north, I really hope this information helps you out.
Cheers Leigh
Very comprehensive and interesting, thanks for sharing this.
