Yorknite 2021

Post by verreli » Fri Oct 15, 2021 10:18 am

Does anyone know the dates for this years exercise? I've seen the Challenger go into Leeming a few times and we can only be a few weeks off now.

Previous instances of Yorknite have been 4-weeks. Dates on Swiss AF website suggest it starts 15th Nov, with two weeks for Meiringen crew. Followed by two weeks for Payerne crew starting 29th Nov. This year there should be choppers too.

Granted, last year's was a couple of weeks late and a couple of days shorter than the published dates. But I think the reasons should be obvious.

Thanks p6025. Four weeks to go is better than six. Lets hope they follow the same pattern and include a dusk navex... and the weather is kind.

This Jet then landed at RAF Valley at approx 0930 with 34 pob. Any idea where this flight originated from this morning before arriving into Leeming?

There will be a Belgian squadron celebration going on at Valley, so maybe the flight was just a normal NATO charter, taking the guys to Valley.

The Swiss FA-18's or due to arrive at Leeming on the 29th from Payerne Air Base according to the official Swiss Detachment calendar, so yet again the Scramble website dates or wrong.

From the post by p6025 above it suggests the Meiringen crews arrive for the first detachment on the 15 Nov with Payerne crews following 2 weeks later. We'll know soon enough.

I have checked their calendar again this morning and their is no mention of Meiringen crews, only Payerne. Its showing them arriving on the 29th and departing on 6th of December so only here a week. This information has come from the Swiss Air Force, so I guess we will have to wait and see if it turns out correct. The calendar was printed back during the lock down at the start of the year.

That is not how I read their calendars obviously. In some ways I hope your interpretation is right - as that would make for one awesome week :)

The calendar on the Swiss Airforce page clearly shows two Weeks starting from the 29th November Thats For Payerne.
Meiringen has a two week slot from the 15th that says No Jet Operation Planned.
Will have to wait and see if any Support arrives this week

The Exercise will be operating from RAF Leeming from 15 November to 10 December and will involve night flying until 2200, Monday to Friday.
