Helicopter Exercise starting 29 April
Re: Helicopter Exercise starting 29 April
Hi Guys,
I arrived at Newcastle airport on Thursday 9th May at 10:40am and there was a Puma on the GA ramp on the other side of the runway from the terminal building. It started up shortly after I arrived and then I saw it overhead Newcastle city centre about an hour later.
Would anyone have an i.d. for it?

Your Puma was XW231 with credit to Air North

Nothing on main ramp, two Chinooks on disused
No Wildcats
Merlin ZK001/AF parked out in usual position at Northern HAS site
One Puma noted inside HAS nose-out but not enough fuselage showing for any identification
Another HAS was open but unable to determine what was inside

Re: Helicopter Exercise starting 29 April
Can anybody confirm which Pumas are currently st Leeming. One visited Cranwell yesterday and it was difficult to read but it looked like it was coded W. It departed 1600 back to Leeming as SHF305.
Thanks
Ben
Thanks
Ben

Re: Helicopter Exercise starting 29 April
ZJ957 is coded W I believe and does not have the fuselage side-racks fitted
XW213 has lighter tone green engine intake covers and side racks
Not sure about identification marks for ZJ954 but there have been a number of photos posted in the current mil photography section, perhaps visitors to Barton etc.
If you can catch them on their port side in good light the serial is repeated just above the fuel intake for the benefit of the fuel handlers as the boom serial is rarely legible due to the heavy soot deposits, not every a/c but worth looking out for
I need all four of the ZJ serials, hence the interest ☺

Paul
