Isn't it only Cottesmore that's ceased being an airfield with immediate effect? The ATC guys were firing off all their unused flares yesterday, just as they did at Coltishall on the last day that air traffic was open there. I thought Wittering was remaining open as a divert airfield for the time being, and they'll be taking over LARS from Cottesmore soon.

Correct RAF Wittering will remain open and if the rumours are true then it will be host to its new tenants in the new year. Something that should see the airfield return to its CFS roots. The ATC at RAF Cottesmore is manned still but only to provide LARS cover until the upgrade work at Wittering is complete which should see it take over the duties from them on the 4th of January.

Wittering will be throbbing to the noise of Pawnees & Chipmunks next July as it hosts the RAF Regional Gliding Championships.

Andy, Do you know which unit from CFS is rumoured to be going in to Wittering and will it likely to affect anything that happens at Wyton ? Ta.

No last I herd it was more to do with the cluttered airspace in the south west corner of Lincolnshire

Thanks. Have also heard another rumour of new occupants at Witt... a certain Hawk unit, but not THAT one. These are from up north, but further up the A1.

I heard that Barkston heath is to close and move there Aircraft should be moving to Wittering, leaving cranwell and Waddington with alittle more space as previously said this is to unclutter the Lincolnshires airspace, for i work with someone who lives at Wittering and has a partner that works there, the base is open 9-5 week days as a reserve for Visitor landing and Training facility, then the new year the move should happen, Wittering families and spotters :thumb:

Cottesmore spotters and families :'(

Unless the rare chance of this Harrier reserve squadron being set up in the next few months then its certain goodbye! :grr:
