Having grown up in the eighties and put myself through a minor hell, as a child, about nuclear war and suchlike I would be careful what you wish for.

Well said, Shane and Mark. I thought the original posting might've been some sort of sick joke, but probably not. I lived through the first Cold War for fifty years. I cannot believe that anyone would seriously want a return to that atmosphere of fear and hatred.

"blackbelt" - if this was originally intended as a poor attempt at humour then I suggest you come back and admit as much - in order to at least salvage some credibility on this forum.

If not intended as humour, please take a long, hard look at the sort of person who would honestly be wishing for one country to go to war with another.

I'm surprised anyone could decipher what the post was all about as the spelling and grammar is appalling.

So after the RAF re-open all the bases that have been closed since the end of the Cold War Era, what exactly would we put in them. Maybe we can get Cosford to release some of the Jags they have and I suppose if we ask the USAF nicely they might lease us back some Harriers, we could hang fire till August when we would have two flying Lancaster's available.

Although an immature sentiment I would rather our forces be used in another cold war than the hot wars we've been partaking in of late.

Just remind me to move further away from Waddington, (I am across the road in Branston, Lincs) and can see the approach from the front garden, not to mention being inside the circuit pattern....

And should there be a new cold war blackbelt..... Where exactly do you think the numerous supply of Russia's ICBM's are likely to go?

I Doubt you have much to hide in around Lincoln.

For those of a slightly older generation like me, does anyone remember the BBC's scare the wits out of you nuclear drama Threads? the US of A did it as well, though being 40 something I seem to have forgotten the title

I think Mr Blackbelt may be a tad embarrassed at present, time for an apology methinks...
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

You might not be in an English class but it appears you also haven't read through the Forum rules.

9 - ALL posts must be made in English and readable with no text-speak at all. Text-speak is not regarded as a mode of communication here because it is pure idleness/laziness of the English Language. If you are in doubt of how to spell a word then please use Google, a spell-checker or a dictionary.

Posts should never be made entirely with capital letters (neither should topic titles) - this is classed as shouting and is rude, posts should not be made-up entirely of lower-case letters either. Each sentence and thread-title should also start with a capital letter.

Can we remind all members to use grammar to the best of their abilities, we have a number of foreign members who are able to converse perfectly well in a language not their own - it is not beyond the realms of possibility that UK members should also be able to make themselves understood too.

Looks like blackbelt kicked a hornets nest.i think he was trying to make the point that the hobby would be far better if there was stacks of bases and aircraft but unfortunately this can only be so with a credible threat (like the old cold war).i think too many people on fighter control are only too ready to jump down peoples necks these days for making statements they dont agree with, but that is called freedom of speech which is a prime example of why the west stood up to the communist system in the first place.

The film the US put out just prior to the UK threads was 'The Day After' - have it here on DVD

Apparently even Ronald Reagan commented on its content after it was broadcast - something along the lines of 'this must never be allowed to happen!'

Of the two I would say 'Threads' was the most terrifying at the time

Even more terrifying than "Threads" was the film "The War Game" which was so frightening that the BBC (who'd commissioned it) refused to show it. It's available on YouTube - maybe blackbelt and those with similar views should be forced to sit and watch it! They may then think twice before making glib and tasteless remarks. There's more to life than watching aeroplanes.
