125.35 (Waddington Tower)

Post by LincsVRS » Tue Dec 17, 2013 8:54 am

Just a quick note: They are operating Scampton Tower on this frequency as well today, its already confused me once so thought I would give people the heads up.
I would say this is not usual practice but now I have said this someone will tell me its like that all the time!

Sounds like someone has punched the wrong buttons somewhere!

Hehe, would be funny if that were true. I'm fairly sure they have done this before quite a bit as they tend to share stuff as Scampton is normally quiet. Having a fag break at and fan hear fast jets.

Yea just to confirm the Reds are up by the sound of their air-to-air. Waddington ATIS used to broadcast R313 state but I have checked today and it wasn't earlier. They do share various things and frequencies but it feels a bit different today. It can be like this if they have a VIP or photoshoot.

Excuse me for jumping in here, but to the best of my limited knowledge which has been gleaned whilst monitoring
the Reds a/a of 243.45.
Waddington provide a LARS to the Reds on 125.35 and this freq. is also used to leave and join the circuit with Scampton Tower.
That as I said, is how my limited knowledge understands it, and it has been like this for as long as the Reds have been a Scampton.

Regards,

John

Thanks for clarifying the situation John, so thanks for jumping in.

I've come back to monitoring recently after a few years just popping on every now and again. I can remember them sharing frequencies but could not remember the circumstances. I think I am going to make a few mistakes while I'm starting back online for the majority of the time so please accept my apologies when I do and feel free to jump in and correct me anytime. The feeling of being the village idiot is not a new concept for me. Sometimes I can be a little bit eager to get the heads up to people (as I used to spend a lot of time in the dark) and make the wrong judgement call.

I have Waddington 125.35 down as a secondary tower (secondary to 121.3) is this still correct? If so I will add a note of Scampton LARS (or Red Arrows LARS) to the entry.
Also John do Waddington ATIS still give out R313 state and next change most of the time like they used too?

Many thanks again John

John W is correct, the Reds use 243.45 (I presume 234.45 was a typo) for the a/a freq and Waddington provide a radar service on 125.35 for the Red Arrows in R313 - the Reds like to know about traffic approaching the edges of the restricted area as sometimes, possibly due to weather, they manoeuvre outside the area during their practices.

Thanks SATCO

I will sit in a corner with my silly boy hat on for a few minutes so I learn my lesson! ;-)

I'm a bit like yourself, in and out but I do tend to stay faithful to the Reds. That is why I was fairly certain of the freqs.
in my previous post (typo not withstanding, which I've since corrected) so it is extremely rare for me to catch the ATIS broadcasts.

John

No worries John, did not even notice the typo (probably too busy making one myself)

I used to use Waddington ATIS to get the times for Red Arrows practices on the day so I could drive up in time for a practice. When I heard Waddington LARS refer to it as hot I went onto the ATIS but it did not mention R313. I will flick over every now and again to see but it used to be really handy for me when they gave 30min blocks of time out.
