Ex Cobra Warrior parking restrictions

Afternoon all,

If you're planning on visiting during the exercise, please be aware that the county council has applied for a traffic order on both the A15 and B1178 (the roads crossing the 20 & 02 approaches):

https://www.inyourarea.co.uk/notices/Tr ... 4c48dc544e

A quick summary is that you'll only be able to park in the WAVE on the A15 or in the lay-bys on the 02 end. The A15 will have 30mph and no overtaking restrictions too.

This is great news.

Those roads are dangerous, and spotters sometimes make silly decisions to get that shot.

Should make the whole situation much safer.

Please - don't tarnish spotters (i.e. pure number crunchers) with the obsession-fuelled stupidities of some toggers. :halo:

Unfortunately Bob stupidity had no boundaries! However it is only usually relevant to a minority of any given group.

Unfortunately pure number crunchers are just as guilty as anyone else in our hobby. They will park anywhere if it facilitates the addition of a number to their log; it is known as an obsession :grr:

This thread is rapidly heading south :) we are all on the same side of the fence.

I hope we will be able to walk up the lane to the fence at the Harmston end?

Good news with the 30mph speed limit on the A15, I can push bike up and feel safe and definitely find somewhere to park!!

Looks like we're gonna have to get to the wave very early to get a parking space then.
Thanks for the heads up!

That subject was broached in a topic about advice from the police way back in April. Looks like that may well be restricted.

Is there still the facility to open the old bomb dump for over spill parking, think this was done before although a few years back?

Does anyone know what this years exercise entails. I see it's scheduled for 18 days but I believe that previous CW exercises have only been for a week(5 days) and the a/c don't fly everyday? Thinking of making the long trip down, but only if it's going to be daily missions.

Absolutely, time for a cycle ride or dog walk.

If your on about the feild ext to the wave, they opened it up for cars when the 3 tornados went through in march. Hopefuly something similar will be done if needed.

This doesn’t sound good for spotters, the no waiting/ loading probably includes no loitering!

Will the wave shop be open?

The WAVE will be open early.

When the an-124 arrived the other week the RAF police were present and were not allowing people past the traffic lights until after the a/c had landed and shut down. We may see something like this.

I think/hope we will be OK standing on the side of the road, I can't see them confining us to the car park.

that's assuming they use rnwy 20 if there is not much wind and ATC wish to be awkward they could bring them in on 02 !!

True, but they wont bring them in on 02 every day for 3 weeks unless the wind is that way.

And they wouldn't use 02 unless absolutely necessary, it causes havoc for Cranwell and Barskton as the jets will have to do a tear drop arrival, not great if you've got large fighter packages arriving, at least on 20 they can hold them out to the east.

Don't remember all this hassle when the Indians came 10 years or so ago.

Is there more of us about now?
