It is, although the E3 you speak of is at the far end of the Awacs dispersal now and has been sometime. Best to park in the layby and walk down the lane to the crash gate. Unless you have a land rover.....

If you're not bothered in photographing them just drive up the A607 down the western edge of the base - easily visible from there

Finally caught these this morning.

Be warned, Military police out in force both inside and outside the fence. As I stood at the crash gate changing batteries in my camera a patrol came out of the field and seemingly told/asked another spotter who was behind me not to continue to the gate. I ventured into the field to take some pics and was approached by patrols airside twice within five minutes. I was in the field and not the strip of land owned by the MOD. All polite but apparently they are on high alert.

Seems unusual, never had any issues in the past. I guess if they park the Italians down that end there may well be more active patrols.

Delta seems the most likely parking area (larger apron to the north of where the Phenoms are). Swiss f18 used to park here for ACMI, with the Belgians and French further north.

Just curious, who actually owns this pair, the MOD or the training contractor ?
Who would be responsible for deciding their fate ?

Under her own power? Hopefully damage fixed.

336 was still present today.

They are Military Registered Civilian Operated Aircraft (MRCOA) so actually owned by Affinity. Affinity will be responsible for repairs, however I don’t know who will pick up the bill!!

Suppose that will depend on what the accident report findings are?

Confirmed it went to Cranwell.

Yes but appeared to be a gear down ferry flight, which kinda suggests it is not fully fixed?

Actually it doesn't suggest anything other than a very short flight at a reduced speed. Done many "Gear Down" transits for short hops like Lyneham to Brize or Fairford to Brize.

Is ZM336 still near crash gate 5, or has it been moved elsewhere?
Cheers, TM74

It seems very strange that a brand-new, multi-million aircraft hasn't been hangared and left outside to rot for well over two months. There's a post on the Military Aircrew part of PPRuNe that suggests that the interior strengtheners within the cockpit area have been damaged. I'm not sure if that's true, but there's obviously some issues between the insurers of the aircraft.
This season, I'll be mostly wearing........A THONG!

The jet has lots of red tape all over it, any slight gap is covered with the stuff. The windows all have silver reflective foil like stuff behind as well. I guess hangar space is at a premium at Waddington.

Luke, FYI, the Phenoms were never (or planned to be) part of the RAF 100 flypast.

The 100 rehearsal took place abeam Cranwell at 1300, the Phenoms were not part of that.

It is purely coincidental that the aircraft were practising formation flying later in the day when the incident took place.
