Just to put my two pence worth in from the rumour mill: Airshow 2014 dates set in stone (or as well as can ever be) but Airshow 2015 is the problem given the airfield will be closing for up to (so some say) 18 months, for major runway works. Apparently they are considering running Airshow 2015 late in the season if works allow.

(This is pure speculation/gossip although one source is fairly good normally, please don't hurt me in 2015 if I am wrong  )

LincsVRS

Very unlikely the date can be moved drastically, SilentFlight who is part of the organisation team. Has stated over on UKAR several times it's hard for them to move the date because they are reliant on Lincoln's University for accommodation.

No I can assure you we are solely dependent on the University for accommodation. It is not the only facility that is used, but provides the bulk of the accommodation, in excess of 700 rooms, not purely for visiting crews, but also many other personnel. This year we filled our allocation in there, the messes, other stations messes and the two other accommodation providers we use. Sadly in September the new students have moved in and over the summer months, they hold summer courses meaning that this is unavailable. Short of booking 3 or four caravan sites in Skegness for the weekend, there are no other suitable venues in Lincolnshire, without over complicating Transport and displacing crews across the county, which would all increase the ticket prices I'm sure.

This has been stated many many times before, whether or not you choose to believe it is one thing, but it is a fact!

and
Unfortunately due to the accommodation situation in and around Lincoln, the only feasible option is for July when our main provider has a 2 week window to accommodate 850 people or so! All in all we need around 1200 beds which is the main factor in dictating when we hold the show.

Also on the subject of the runway repair / renewal he said
You dont need a runway for an airshow!!!!! There will be a fair amount of runway in 2015, so dont start the rumour mill just yet folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea I hadn't thought about the accommodation angle, I was aware of them using the Uni accommodation quite a bit but that's some serious numbers there!

Also good point about them not needing a runway for an Airshow but what about static stuff?

Who knows and its probably of no consequence to any of us yet as loads could happen before 2015, just thought I would pass on what some of the locals are saying.

Red Arrows are also confirmed on the website  :thumb: Great news about the Swiss Hornet

Thinking a long way ahead.. wonder if the Hornet will stop at Waddington? Would it be worth flying back to Switzerland to fly back to the UK a few days later

Interesting bit on the rooms required for the support staff/crew at Waddington.

I know slightly off topic, but how does RIAT get around this also? Does the station have that much on site accommodation for crew?

RIAT use Hotels and Shrivenham for accomomodation.

Swiss Hornet is great addition, but it's also at RIAT and Yeovilton. Will be interesting to see if we get the Canadian Hornet or the even USN Variant, which traditionally turns up on Farnborough years at RIAT.

Hornet fest?

When I did RIAT we were accommodated in Gloucester Uni.

I saw them in Ostrava last year, very eye catching but it was overcast and they look dull without decent light on them.

Good display as helicopter displays go, looking forward to them coning to the UK.

Great stuff Waddington.

That is a great addition, and as said above, would be super if it was a camo Herk support ship, parked where we could all see it for once :thumb:

I'm very excited! I don't think I've seen a helicopter display team with more than two heli's!
