Ok Ok, lets take this one step at a time. Yes the post is in the Wrong place. Next Tim S and I was around in them days, and yes QRA was regular every day from Binbrook and other bases, checking out Russian aircraft over the north sea. The Goverment gave the public how to protect ourself's from Nuclear strikes. Yes most people lived in fear of a nuclear strikes and the after effects. This is Not a joking matter, and not a laughing matter. Information films were shown, of a nuclear detonation and effects on buildings and the way it just blew the houses down.

Not happy with this member's post. :@ :@

I've been watching this thread with some interest.

While I think blackbelt got the cart a bit before the horse with his original post, I would like to think his main point is that he would like to see more active UK airbases, as used to be the case when the threat level was higher. Wishing for a higher threat level to provoke more activity may not be the most desirable way to get to enjoy life more though. The right to an opinion is clear, but the sentiment may not have been thought through as well as it might.

I also dislike badly worded posts, but some are better at this than others. There used to be a facility to enlist admin help in composing readable posts. If this still exists, it is an admirable facility; it may have fallen into disuse if resources are stretched too thin.

What should not be overlooked is that it is not beyond governments to foment discord and military confrontation for their own purposes. Examples are Germany in the '30's, Argentina in the early '80's, indeed the whole cold war spurred on industrial production and innovation in the West right through from the sixties to the '90's , when the 'peace dividend' actually precipitated an economic slowdown rather than a dividend. And, coming right up to date, Putin's popularity at home has improved markedly after a bit of land-grabbing and sharpening of sabres. When times are hard, having a foe on whom to focus your attention, especially an evil foreign one, can unite a country and drive its output forward.

I agree mate, however I do not agree with the spelling bashers. Fine they can punctuate and spell properly but perhaps the original poster has Dyslexia? The bit where Colin points out the rules is extremely offensive and extremely rude not only to myself but to other sufferers as well. Really some people should be back 100 years teaching left handed people how to write with the right hand!! Freedom of speech is everything but bashing somebody because the spelling and grammar is not correct (possibly) for a reason is way out of order. I suspect the spelling basher is only doing so because of the original posters comment, and as can be seen some people do not like what he has said, well so what, he is allowed an opinion and people have died so he can have that opinion.

Its the prejudice against his spelling and grammar that offends me more.

I hope my spelling and grammar are reasonably correct....spell checker used!!

As for my opinion on the original posters opinion, its not worthy of giving an opinion! :pop:

Maybe you would like to ask the MODS if quoting the rules is offensive. If you care to re-read the original post that set this thread off you might understand why I posted my comments, what's the point of a Forum having rules if people are going to just ignore them. The MODS have on more than one occasion said they are prepared to help people on the Forum if they have difficulties with spelling and Grammar, if they choose to ignore the offer of help then what do they expect. I don't have a problem with people having an opinion but please don't tell me my post is offensive and rude because I happen to quote the rules, and to be fair I can't see why it should offend you anyway it wasn't your post that I commented on.

As my son is currently serving in the RAF I have absolutely no desire through humour or stupidity to wish for things like that.

Unbelievable.

Correct. Having just completed 36+ yrs in the RAF, being at the front line during much of my time, I too consider myself fortunate not to have seen the full effect of any 'Warsaw Pact Central Heating Element'. We did however, have many minival, maxival and full blown tacival exercises to practice responses to any activity; good fun, but with a serious undercurrent.
On the point of the Spelling and Grammar Police, nobody's perfect, but there are basic spellcheck programs that can eliminate many errors...
Critically observing Pension regulatory activity... :D

Hmm interesting how Blackbelts comments have caused a stir.

I would like to add that most people on this board are into,( in some way or another) military aircraft. Now although they can be used as a deterrent, they are also used for killing, and we can pussyfoot around all you want about the original posters comments being in bad taste, but 'cold wars' will probably give people a chance to see more military aircraft etc as part of there hobby, so if we are saying it is such bad taste I assume that if things escalated and visiting aircraft came through the UK ,that these same people who think its a reckless comment, would not be chasing these aircraft because they didn't want things like this too happen?

And yes , the original posters comment was probably not very tactful and politically correct...but I know a lot of enthusiasts who have whined at the loss of our military presence and pray for the 'good 'ol days' so I think people are just being a tad judgemental here.
My opinion.

KC
