Everyone had queued on the verge, all we did was to take the first right and keep turning right until we got to the A15 and joined the queue again!!

I left at 16.45 but on UKar they have said the police at gates when they left at 5.15 were adamant they wouldn't be open until 9 again in the morning.

Yep, today was a farce. I got shifted at 8.40 for "obstructing a clearway". I was told to drive off, he didn't care where just get off the clearway.I then had to drive to Bracebridge Heath and wait for news to filter through that the gates would open at 9pm. Consequently we all lost our places at the front, which was pretty irritating. The RAF boys were blaming the local coppers and said matters were out of their hands. Was told on leaving it's 9pm tomorrow, so if you turn up before be warned YOU WILL GET SHIFTED!!

Wow, if this is true, then I'd better start changing my plans. Was going to get there early! It's no doubt going to cause crazy traffic problems on the A15!

Be warned if you turn up at 9pm you'll be on your own and will have missed all the action
You weren't there today to witness the pedantic policing and the 'we wash our hands of it' attitude of the RAF...so you can take your chances if you want.........another final thought if they switch the landings to 02, like today, you'll see sweet FA whether you're there before or after 9

No I'm not. I'm a weather forecaster.

Pretty rotten one then

Oh dear, did the beloved coppers cause another crisis for nothing today? Oh well, it's not like we didn't see it coming. Maybe it'll be enough to create enough pressure to encourage them to wind their proverbial necks in before next year's bash?

Sheff,

It was not the fault of the Police. You are too quick to jump on the 'bash the Police wagon' without knowing the facts. The A15 at that section is a Clearway for a reason. The Police were only trying to keep the A15 flowing to all traffic and especially leading up to a rush hour. It was beyond their control what was going on within the Park and View and their problems with safety/medical cover issues. The queuing traffic was impeding the flow of traffic and especially with larger vehicles forced to straddle the centre line - the only option was to get everybody moving.

Unfortunately it was a combination of events which led up to it. The fact that the Park and View couldn't be advertised in advance on the Airshow website was a major problem and therefore times couldn't be updated or notices posted. See post by Silent Flight

http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=34217" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

'Its all to do with a legal issue, with regards to advertising the event. In theory it becomes a public airshow, which has implications for validating unseen displays. In future it will change in the way the viewing area operates and will most likely go to pre registration and invitation'

There was also the problem of the signs placed out on the A15 as it clearly stated gates open at 8am. If the signs currently out on the A15 are not amended (8am changed to 9am) then the same problem will arise tomorrow with cars impeding the Clearway.

Nope, the aircrew were adamant the viewing area will not open before 9am.

They were queuing pass the WAVE today before everyone got moved on and they still didn't open the gates till nearly 9am

Apparently they were queued for ages this morning on A15, then the police moved them all on!!

Given that 9am seems to the time that the gates will open surely the police are making an issue for themselves in that a large volume of people/traffic is almost certainly going to turn up at this time, therefore almost certainly blocking the A15 whilst all this queues at the entrance waiting to get in and negating the purpose of this ruling. Surely if the gates opened earlier there would be a more staggered volume of traffic.

Also, if the blocking of the A15 is such an issue would it not make more sense to divert all through traffic around the back road between Bracebridge Heath and the Branston turning south of the airfield, keeping that stretch of the A15 only for traffic going to Waddington, if only at peak traffic times. Surely this also reduces the risk of traffic / pedestrian accidents along the 'fenceline' caused by drivers paying more attention to the air than the road!

Just my thoughts

waddington airshow fly in days

Post by Hunter49 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:46 pm

hi just a warning to all who will be going to the fly in,gates do not open till 0900 exactly much to the annoyance of the many who parked awating the gates to open at 0800 as on the notice boards and the tickets! the police moved everyone which caused complete snarl up , the police told everyone if they did not move a ticket was the next option, when people got in the new opening time was the police decision?also they said no medical care was available? the hedge is very tall at most locations , many angry people this morning ,friday will see many more. very disapointed with the organisation for the spotters.
