Any of you local boyz able to post a camera-shot of the 'Dreaded Hedge ' haircut on here,so I can decide whether I need to bring an Access Platform Truck or a single step-stool? ;)

A tephalone shot from me yesterday, you can see the dreaded hedge at the bottom. I was stood on the bottom step of my step ladder (couldn't find my real one) and I'm just over 6 ft.

You can easily stand at the road side and clear the hedge for almost any shot other than directly in front of you when taxi-ing to 20, a ladder/step is only needed if you go right to the edge as it drops down a little, or you want to get over the potential masses that assemble - the hedge has not been cut beyond the lights (which if like 2019 will be out of bounds), you'll need a 10ft ladder to see over that, plus the WAVE 'security' complete with high vis vest, high vis jacket, radio, ear piece, bino's and flashing orange lights in their cars will be on to you....

I'd take a small step/2 step ladder or something just incase, there were people with large ladders staying in the WAVE the whole time.

Hope that helps?

A sturdy two-step, the broader the base the better, does fine. And yes, if that hedge had not been cut, it would've caused big problems all round ...

Thanks for the Pic' & info' reaper493 & further advice from Tally-ho. Most reassuring to see the extent of the 'trim'. Just need the weather to come good again? :thumb:

Worth pointing out, current weather forecast points to RW02 being in use on the posted arrival dates (30th/31st) of the Italian Typhoons & German Tornados.

This will be useful. https://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.u ... ington.php

Worth noting when I went down the 02 end in August last year, I was confronted by a farmer.

Here's in my comment from 25.8.21
I was down there this morning attempting to photograph the Drone.
I walked down to crash gate 5, then back tracked up the lane, then walked along what I thought was a footpath around the edge of the fields up to the A607.

On my return trip, I was greeted by the farmer who advised it was private land and I was trespassing. Public access is down to the crash gate only, public are not allowed off the track, whether through the field or around the edge. He told me there are multiple animal traps etc that are around there. He was polite and I apologised and went on my way. Apparently the game keeper would not be as friendly. I believe there is a small amount of land by the perimeter fence that is Mod owned but I don't think it's worth the risk in trying to access it.
So basically the red lines down the 02 end are not footpaths, they are on private land.

There is some MOD land between the perimeter fence and the edge of the farmers field, but it's overgrown and is no longer passible.

Just a warning if you go down that way - the lane is undriveable, there is now only one Layby, the southern layby is now the base for some roadworks company.

The WAVE staff will also move (try to) you on if you stand at point B between the lights.

Happy hunting!

Mike

🇺🇦 🌻 🇺🇦

The lane up to the area referred to above, G on T&L site, is part of the Fire and Rescue services exit fro the airfield. Please do not obstruct it.

what's RTTFM please?
I googled it and got 'Real-Time Traffic Flow Management' but what that has to do with photography I have no idea and doesn't make sense to me. :O

Something to do with advising photographers to 'Read The Firkin Manual', I presume.

The public rights of way are marked on the Lincolnshire council maps. Rights of way can be over private land, but the private land owner cannot prevent you using a RoW.

http://lincs.locationcentre.co.uk/inter ... eview=true

These appear to be unchanged from the previous incarnation of the Lincolnshire maps which were discussed here in 2019

Thanks

The 2nd layby at the 02 Harmston end has just been closed off, as is the lane down to CG5.

The only parking at 02 end is now where ever you can get on tower lane - could mean chaos tomorrow.

+1 with thanks to those that posted the great info. Not on any of the faceache or twatter type of social media ( just my personal choices) so FC is my go to for info. Disappointed about the 02 end being made difficult /impossible to access but, as I was more interested with the Italian stuff, I'm more than happy with what I got today.

Given the layby closure and number of "no parking" cones down the A15 anybody would think POTUS or G7 was happening ?
There are a dozen fast jets on base, and I doubt all of them will fly on the same day.
