Considerate Parking - Runway 07 (BBMF) end
Considerate Parking - Runway 07 (BBMF) end
Like many military bases Coningsby gives good access to Spotters due to the good favour of local Landowners. I have been asked to post some frustrations suffered by these, namely the parking on the track leading to the landing lights and in front of the gate leading to a concrete storage area, which is adjacent to the 'official' parking area! Also parking on the verge at the access leading to the mound should stop as this was created by the farmer to allow farm vehicles the ability to use it as a 'slip road' when turning left out of which has the potential to be a very dangerous junction. Generally there is always adequate parking in the main car park or off road at the mound. The above is a polite request and will hopefully be heeded - Spotters can often be their own regulating force. We are lucky and privileged as to the viewing access at Coningsby - lets not lose it.

Yes expect Coningsby to be busy. But unfortunately the additional visitors will not be reading these pages. They will be the general public, grandad taking the kids to see the 'old plane' that will have been on the previous night news. These people, like those at Scampton, will cause problems with parking because they know no better and do not understand the safety issues. They will most likely have bored children who think it fun to run about in the farmers fields damaging crops. Sadly when the CWH Lancaster has gone the responsible local spotters will be blamed and have to pick up the pieces. I just hope that the MOD, base CRO and local land owners are understanding of the additional public interest.GhostFlight91 wrote:Its going to be mental!!!romeo bravo wrote:And wait until the CWH Lancaster arrives...........

I fear a little on this issue, as it appears to be a simple issue of demand and supply.
The demand for space will be high, whilst the supply of space will be limited.
I hope people use common sense to keep the routes open without parking on verges or infuriating landowners further.

Lets hope the MCO informs as to the plans in good time, the CWH Lanc is not the only problem, how about families day and anticipated visitors.
Re: Considerate Parking - Runway 07 (BBMF) end
As someone whose local 'base' is Spadeadam, and therefore only a rare visitor to Coningsby, it's good to see the base's MCO linking into this Forum. I don't know how long this has been done officially, as I know social media, etc., is read by all sides of the fence, but it's great to see a visual linkage across the fence!
And when I'm next at Coningsby I will try to make sure as usual that I park considerately but in the meantime all the best with the arrival of the forthcoming Gripens, Italian Typhoon, CWH Lancaster et al - sounds like the base could provide a large concrete pad for parking and still not satisfy demand :-))

Our MCO only became more considerate when his arm was twisted. What an improvement the change of attitude has had. Well done, keep it up Jim.

As Coningsby must be in the top three spotters places to watch in Uk (civil as well) during the week if not top and I attend here a lot I wish to say a big thanks to the spotters and jo public for keeping the rubbish to to almost nil in the car park with proper rubbish bins if those bases have a close look how its done it will keep there rubbish down and help to keep both sides of the fence happy well done to RAF CONINGSBY STAFF for letting every body to watch with no hassle
Re: Considerate Parking - Runway 07 (BBMF) end
A last minute offer of a lift meant a visit to see the Gripens and Italian Typhoons, as well as the resident RAF aircraft, on Thursday. And I would just reiterate 'britaylor' in congratulating all sides of the fence for giving photographers local or incomers some great photo locations and opportunities.
I would also feel it important to thank the farmer/s who put up with the photographers' desire to explore the boundary fences looking for the perfect composition - in the cold dampness of Thursday morning I reckon the farmer/s could also set up a mobile cafe, and rake in a few bob too!
But everyone's tempered balancing act was appreciated - & speaking of balancing acts, crikey some of the balancing on the various ladders was impressive . . . stay safe lads!
