2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
Has anyone heard who will be the Typhoon Display Pilot for 2020? Not sure if I have missed something but there is normally announcement before the end of the preceding year. With the work up to the new display starting in January. Not seen anything posted about a pilot or Notam’s for the display practice.
Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
I've heard nothing either.seems odd to me that it's so late..perhaps we won't have one this season..it's been known with many other nations.i hope that's not the case but,you never know.
Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
Last year's announcement was the end of January

I think the original pilot was announced in the October. He was later "re-assigned" and JP took over again.

Just popped up on the Coningsby Facebook page:
Handing over the Throttles...

We are thrilled to announce that the Royal Air Force Typhoon Display Pilot for the 2020 Display Season is Flight Lieutenant Dean Rogers in succession to Flight Lieutenant Jim Peterson.
•
Flt Lt Peterson said: “It’s been a true honour to display the exceptional capabilities of the Typhoon to the United Kingdom and overseas for the last two years. I’ve met some incredible people and have had some amazing experiences I will cherish for a lifetime. Congratulations to Flt Lt Rogers aka Deano on becoming the new Typhoon Display Pilot. His professionalism, dedication and character will help build on the solid foundations set by his predecessors. I wish Deano all the very best for the 2020 display season”.
•
Flt Lt Rogers says, "It is a privilege to join a team that represents a snapshot of all that is great about the Royal Air Force and we look forward to sharing the 2020 season with everyone."
The Team Thanks Jim P for an awe-inspiring two years and welcomes Deano for the 2020 season!

Thanks Reaper493, thanks for the info as I do not use FB, very useful. I can now start watching for the NOTAM's for the work up.

Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
NOTAM for official practice will come along eventually.
Imminently, the new and retiring display pilots will be up together as part of the normal training/handover. Practising typical display procedures at altitude away from base.
Listen out for callsigns Typhoon 29, but most important Typhoon** which is Fl.Lt. Dean Rogers personal callsign. I'll let you know the number just as soon as I hear them.

Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
As reported elsewhere by Administrator Gary, the 2020 display pilots callsign is Typhoon 88.
Whenever you hear this callsign it will be a practice display.
Initially he will be not below FL150, then not below FL100 etc etc, and it will be March before he is active and/or visible in the CBY area.

Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
Notams showing practice for 5th and 6th of this week!
Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
Making my way to CBY this afternoon, late start night flying, scanner on.
Approx 14.40, Typhoon 88 talking to tower, "making my first run in".
Practice display, perhaps not clearly visible - partial cloud at 2,400 feet, scattered at 3,000.
Was I the only one aware, not a whisper of this anywhere else !!

Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
There was a notam out for some practices this week but it has since been removed, there was never one advised for today either way.

Re: 2020 Typhoon Display Pilot?
Thanks reaper, NOTAM probably removed due to excessive wind forecasts.
In fact, this afternoons wind as advised to all returning pilots was on average 210 at 18 knots.
Hence, ideal to fit in a practice - and of course Typhoon 88 first run in is a display practice.
