Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
That's odd when Leeming have confirmed a 2 month deployment of typhoons from CBY
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
The RAF Coningsby official info reported by Aviation News advises that all runway work will be performed overnight and will retain any QRA facility. Further, daytime flying will continue as normal.
Given that any 3/11/41 Sqdn night flying requirements would be more than covered by ongoing QRA runway availability, then we are left with just 29 OCU Sqdn. It may be necessary to send a few Typhoon elsewhere 1week in 4 to maintain training schedule - time will tell.
I shall continue, on parade as normal, and do not foresee any real change forthcoming.

Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
Where have RAF Leeming said about the 2 month Typhoon deployment?
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
So if they are keeping the aircraft at Coningsby, why do other stations having their runway resurfaced send their aircraft else where?
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
I cant recall runway resurfacing been done in the dark surely it will take a whole lot longer doing it that way plus keeping the neighbourhood awake all night with the noise.
Comfortably Numb
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
Thai is how they recently have resurfaced the runway out in Cyprus, and they managed that while the base was still launching sorties for Op Shader
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
oh I see well I bet they don't have the same weather as we have here.
Comfortably Numb
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
Question how do they keep the aircraft flying when this is going on, do they do in sections at a time & what about the English weather etc. Marham has two runways when they did theirs, Coningsby doesn't !!
Re: RAF Coningsby Runway Works Info
The link shows the work will be done at night. Day time ops will not be affected.
They will do small patches, whilst still enabling enough runway available for QRA ops.
Maybe they will do patches on either side of the centre line, so in effect the whole runway length is always available?
Coningsby does have the 1230 strip, which BBMF use, not sure if its long enough for a typhoon to use safely?
The strip doesn't have RHAG either which would also affect the possibly of it being used.

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
I am confused with the comment about a similar post of RAF coningsby section....that's where I posted my post? and I cannot seem to access the thread link, can anyone explain please
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
There was nothing wrong with your post, someone had started another thread about the resurfacing work at Coningsby in "The Mess" and I was pointing out that the topic was already being discussed in the Coningsby section of the forum. Markranger has now merged the 2 topics and all is good!passat man wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 3:27 pmI am confused with the comment about a similar post of RAF coningsby section....that's where I posted my post? and I cannot seem to access the thread link, can anyone explain please

I don't understand why you are asking this immediately after a post which says it isn't closing though?passat man wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 2:34 pmWas planning to go with group next week, dashed by the fact that its night flying..

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Because when he asked, the post above his was in a separate thread in a different part of the forum. Since then it's been merged in to this one.

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
So the moral of the story is that sometimes merging threads needs a bit more thought or you end up with threads that make no sense
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Any updates on if / when Coningsby runway works start, and what plans are in place for relocating the Typhoons ?
