Cobra Warrior September/volcanex/ 2018

Post by Gary » Tue May 29, 2018 6:51 pm

A post on the Coningsby spotters Facebook page, shows the patch for the planned German deployment in September. Patch shows TLG51 Tornado from Schleswig and TLG73 Typhoon from Laage on it :thumb:

Send them over my town again!! 4 German Tornados low last year! Sadly very rare these days so it was a wonderful sight! So rare I had the neighbours asking "Why are there jets flying so low over our village Gareth!!!???" ;-)

Post by NAW » Fri Jul 06, 2018 8:32 am

According Scramble (SIS) these two exercises are combined and will run from Coningsby in September. Could anyone please forward the exact dates for this exercise?

Mickfgr2 - not that I've seen but if it follows the same date pattern as before I would imagine 10th - 21st September

As a guide, last year transports starting bringing stuff in from Mon 4th, the Tornados and EF2000s arrived on the morning of Fri 8th and flying for the exercise commenced on Mon 11th. Not seen anything official but ‘first two weeks’ have been mentioned for this years exercise. Keep an eye out for the arrival of some German transports, a dead cert that things are likely to kick off the following week.

According to a post on facebook from a GAF crew member arrivals could begin either 29th, 30th or 31st August with the exercise runing roughly until 24th September.

Also Volcanex attracted some interesting aircraft ( Spanish Typhoons etc) during the last few years at Leeming so hopefully the mention of it a few posts above comes to fruition.

I quick Google Found this regarding Volcanex

http://www.euroairgroup.org/project/etip-volcanex-mpc/
Representatives from all four Eurofighter/ Typhoon partner nations met at a Main Planning Conference at RAF High Wycombe on the 12th and 13th of June 2018, to agree the prerequisites for a live flying and ground maintenance exercise in September. This meeting was part of the EAG’s Euro Typhoon Interoperability Project (ETIP) which is aimed at improving interoperability among the four EAG Eurofighter Typhoon nations (Germany, Italy, Spain and UK) in terms of live flying procedures and also ground support.

Exercises are one of the most effective instruments that the EAG employs for increasing interoperability. This year, in parallel with Exercise COBRA WARRIOR, which will be hosted by the UK Royal Air Force at Coningsby in September 2018, aircrew from ETIP nations plan to conduct briefings, flying missions and debriefing sessions, in order to improve Standard Operating Procedures and exchange information and lessons based on recent air operations. Ground support staff will also conduct demonstrations of maintenance procedures and cross-national familiarisation sessions using various types of support equipment.
Could be a Typhoon fest with Germany,Italy and Spain all mentioned and if they all actually bring Aircraft,?

If so Lets hope Spain don't think its a live Firing Exercise

Looking good

Sharing assets from cobra warrior

Its a bit bullplop bingo :-

The VOLCANEX ETIP 2018 has been scheduled to take advantage of the planned of collocation in the UK of ETIP assets taking part in Exercise COBRA WARRIOR, thereby making the most of the available synergies and removing the need for ETIP air forces to generate additional resources to support the EAG’s objectives.

Reading that whole article, the Italians and Spanish could participate with just groundcrew. Before anyone gets too excited

Not much infomation on the web about previous one but you could well be correct Gary.

last year seemed to only involve 8 pilots from what i can see and was at Albacete Air Base (Spain) i think.

Are some of the exercise aircraft also at Waddington?

(Not that it really matters as the two bases are close together)

Doubt it mate. German Tornados and EF-2000s were both on the ASP last year with plenty of room to spare.
