What time does the night flying usually start, I went in Sept and there was little action until 7 or 8ish although I am aware night flying is technically 30mins after sunset with the sunsetting much earlier now. thanks

I haven't been in the winter months, but in the lighter months you tended to get one day sortie launch around 1400-1430 and recover 2hrs later, then nothing until dark.
All depends on which squadrons are on nights.
Hopefully a local can provide a rough idea to this week's pattern on Monday

From experience there is usually a launch around 5 - 6 PM (which is often the first major launch) then again after 8.30 and they often do launch upto 11 PM and sometimes beyond.

Cheers Gary
Hugely informative and welcome as usual.
Particularly looking forward to this week as I've built myself a new aerial, and looking forward to testing it out.
Critically observing Pension regulatory activity... :D
