Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Runway resurfacing Coningsby
I have seen mentions that the runway is due to be resurfaced sometime this year, does anyone have an exact date when this is happening please?

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
There's a few threads about this now, with various rumours.
Latest I heard was end of June, 3-4 months.
Cobra Warrior to be solely at Waddington.
41 squadron to Warton.
29 and 3 to Waddington.
11 up north Leeming or Lossie.
BBMF to remain at Coningsby and operate on the 1230 strip (the short disused).
But not seen anything official, other than someone trust worthy has said Waddington will be very busy this year.

It says “Cobra Warrior to be solely at Waddington”...
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
In the DIO Procurement plan for 2018-19 that came out last November it stated estimated tender returns for the refurbishment of the runway and AGL at Coningsby were due in Q1 of 2019. On that basis I wouldn't expect seeing any official dates in the short term with only an indicative time frame as mentioned previously. With regard to Cobra Warrior this has traditionally been within the first 3 weeks of September with transports and some assets arriving late August so, depending on project timescales for the runway resurfacing at Coningsby, it looks likely Waddington will get everything as has been mentioned above and in other threads.
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
I believe Lossie is also due Runway Work this Year so where the Typhoons are is anyones guess?
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Kinloss was mentioned, there is a plan in place i believe, saw it on here a while back.
Believe it will be the same as Marham, one runway at a time so they can still operate.

only the qra to leuchars
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Surely not, Lossiemouth and/or Scottish bases cover the north, Coningsby and/or East Anglian bases cover the south.
Marham, with only a few active F35B and a brand new 24/06 runway, may well be ideal if QRA has to move.

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
venom is talking about the runway repairs at Lossiemouth, which have absolutely nothing to do with the runway repairs at Coningsby.
This season, I'll be mostly wearing........A THONG!
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
You forgot to point out that three of the four posts immediately before venom's post were also about the runway repairs at Lossiemouth. All he was doing was clarifying those posts.
Cheers, Bob
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
That's correct Bob, but those other posts all mention Lossiemouth, venom's didn't and this is where the confusion started.

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Worth mentioning 12 sqn will begin flying from QCY in June.
I suspect they'll also end up at Waddington, or somewhere not too far away at least.

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Be worth a trip to Waddington then, and see some activity.
Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
Snappy,
I had to check what you meant about QCY ???
If like me you did not understand QCY is the IATA (International Air Transport Association) code used mainly by civil airlines. EGXC is also used.
I would be surprised if 12 sqn actually have any additional aircraft, simply using a pool from 29 sqn.
Have any Qatari Typhoon's been built yet ? guess there is always a chance 12 sqn could use them prior to delivery.

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby
The answer to the Have any Qatari Typhoons been built yet is technically no.
They might exist in some sub assemblies.
Keep an eye on the Warton thread. Although if you think it is busy you might want to consider a different hobby!

So they are not going to Waddington then!!! If that's the case they will be all staying at Coningsby and not going around the UK?
