LOG: Syerston 10th May 2024

Post by Ronald Jeremy » Sat May 11, 2024 12:15 pm

Afternoon gents,

A tour around Syerston yesterday gleaned the below. The last time I was on base here was in 1987 and boy have thinsg changed. A lot less now than there was back then.

Preserved on base are...
ZA267/FA Tornado F2T
ZA357/TTV Tornado GR1
ZF202/202 Tucano T1

Four were out flying...
ZE630/YW Viking TX1
ZE636/XZ Viking TX1
ZE653/YE Viking TX1
ZE680/YQ Viking TX1

Main hangar..
G-BSSP Robin DR400 (wore 2FTS badge so guess fairly military)
ZE499/VD Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZE504/VH Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZE521/VK Viking TX1
ZE526/VN Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZE560/WH Viking TX1
ZE584/WP Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZE587/WS Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZE614/XN Viking TX1
ZE650/YB Viking TX1
ZE652/YD Viking (disassembled)
ZE683 Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZE685/YV Viking TX1 (disassembled)
ZH185/TY Vigilant T1 (disassembled)
ZJ963/SL Vigilant T1 (disassembled)

There was also two sets of wings in here if I remember correctly. The fuselages are apparently in a hangar on-site which was completely out-of-bounds.

Maintenance hangar...

ZE553/WA Viking TX1
ZE595/WY Viking TX1
ZE637/YA Viking TX1

And that was it. There wasn't anything showing on FR24 in the area and, as I needed the Egyptair A320 due into MAN I headed back home.

Ron

One of those ZE637 has been noted at Honington recently - not by me unfortunately

Now that I reread the date of your report means it's gone back to Syerston ?

Actually noted? With their eyes? Or just an ADS-B assumption?

As in ' present at Honington '

That will do for me

Mis poles are as old as the hobby and happen quite innocently

I assume the point POL is alluding to is that the Viking fleet have portable transponders which move between aircraft, hence taking ‘tie ups’ from ADSB, FR24 etc is not reliable.

Oh yes I understood that but I think my note came via sightings or I thought it did

I went to Honington yesterday but didn't see anything but then I don't know what part of the station they are flying from - a back burner project
