RAF Syerston 21st August

Post by Jacobnffc » Tue Aug 13, 2024 1:04 pm

Hi all, does anyone have any info regarding the display for the cadet camp at Syerston this year? I’ve heard rumours locally of some of the aircraft due to participate (Typhoon, F35, Chinook, Lancaster, A400, possibly F15s) but does anybody have any more concrete info?

Thanks!

From memory, everything you've mentioned bar the A400/Chinook rings a bell, F-15s were the latest addition last week.

All being well there should be plenty of civil visitors - I'm arriving in a 1947 Cessna 120 weather permitting.

We are looking at heading over again this year, so this information has been a great help to what might be attending. Thanks

Hi all,
are you able to watch from the lane with the crash gate at the end 90 degrees to the A46 or is there somewhere else ?
Thanks in advance

Not sure of places around the perimeter, we are heading to the footpath along the River Trent.

Never viewed from the outside but think some of the locals are not keen on spotters and there are Police patrols.

Seem to remember the display being 2-5pm, but I’m unsure what time static arrivals are going to be happening, would be interested to know as I’d like to catch them if possible

Lanc is between 2 and 3 and Typhoon is around 1645.

Light Civil's need to be in before 0815

Flying display starts at 1300 and ends just after 1700.

Multiple moves in between displays and presumably arrivals in the morning.

Thank you, hoping the strong winds don’t cause too many cancellations, can’t imagine the Lanc is able to takeoff or display in this

There's 10 light aircraft already on the ground here, should be ok.

Another twenty or so statics expected.

Prefect and two Tutors just arrived

Here's a few of the aircraft involved, wasn't really paying attention to be honest as it was more a meet up with the lads by the fence -

G-CKMW
GZ100 'ascot ????'
G-BYWO
G-IHHI
XE688 'javelin 93'
G-BSSP
ZD980
PS853 C
ZM724
PA474 VN-T/AR-L
91 315 'bolar 11'
91 316 'bolar 12'
ZM419
ZK348 'turbo 1'

If anyone can match the callsigns that would be brilliant (all I seem to remember was the A400 used a different callsign to what was on flight tracking sites). :thumb:

Few to add -

ZM337 'Cranwell 33' performed one rather boring flypast - should have been three, guess he was short on fuel.
Display Tutor was G-BYWO
G-NWHF was the Harvard (that almost got blown away by the Apache)
Three permanent residents at Syerston

Tornado Gr4? ZA357 TTV XV sqn marks
Tucano ZF202
Tornado F.2? ZA267 FA 25sqn marks

Some nose sections in a small hangar -

Phantom FGR.2?
Typhoon of some discerption, possible mock up

Few departing statics -
Prefect ZM312/12
Tutors G-BYUX and G-BYUN

Was not a bad afternoon in the end. Wasn’t expecting many due to the wind but throughout the 4 hours there was very little down time. Great day
